i'm new on this site and don't want to offend anyone but just wanted to voice an opinion. i think i first got interest in fast tunnel boats when i bought a hot boat magazine a few years ago and the cover boat was a cougar tunnel with a 2.5. it was so cool but the price was in the 30-40 grand range. way out of my pocketbook.
i look at this site and i see people like lpb and eagle one buiding brand new boat for a little over 10 grand. right now if my boat sold i would go to fla. and go to lpb and eagle one and look at their boats and based on my needs and what i see leave one of them a deposit to build me a 4 seater. i think with a little careful shopping i could find a good used 200+ hp motor and basically have a new rig for about 15k give or take. i think both of these folks must be talented and they probably both subsidize their small boat manufacturing out of their other ventures.
i just can't see what harm it is to build really cool boats people can afford. people that really want a mirage or stv are gonna buy one. people that want an original hst are not gonna buy a late model clone. i think it would increase the value of my boat if somebody started reproducing the hull again.
i spent 25 years in the motorcycle business and i saw special interest groups closing land killing dirt bike sales. the environmentalists got the whole outer banks of nc closed to pwc's.the hi-po boating community seems to be a very small and close-knit community and it only looks reasonable to let's support those businesses that cater to the sport. to me it would be the ultimate rush to sit my fat ass in the seat of a cool boat i had built myself. just like rodney king said; why can't we all just get along.

ps
lpb i think the pictures of your boats speak for themselves.

Like I've told people for many years "there is no money in these smaller boats " I build them because I love them myself,I make a living on all my boats like 21,24,30' cats 21,25,29 centerconsoles and a few Fiberglass Pontoons and House boats !! Funny thing is I take more **** for the few small boats That I build !!Thanks again for the Kind words and when or if you come down here to Fl and get near Sarasota Come by and take one of my toys for a ride !! We are allways happy to have people come by and Check out our Work !! John This is one of my latest toys !

sometimes when my dad would talk a little rough to my mom my mom wouldn't say anything, and after my dad cooled off my mom would tell me it takes two to argue. when these guys bash ya for whatever reason i don't think you even owe them a reply. your boats speak for stemselves.

I know when u guys see that i posted on here, that you are probably going to think "oh no, here comes the ball buster agian." But that is not the case. I have gave john alot of sh!t in the past about these boats, and everytime he comes back with a level answer and doesnt blast me. Well, I think thats damn cool of him, and shows that he is a true professional. We have talked back and forth in PMs a few times, and i thought i would come out and say something about LPB...

I have watched these post and read pages of replys and such. I look at it this way, LPB is making boats locally that people can go see built, they can see the materials that go into their hull, and He listens to what the CUSTOMER wants. The price is good, the build quality is good, AND john will take care of you. I have said different about using the name before, but- IMHO calling the boat a LIGHTNING STV is just his way of giving credit to the original designer of the hull. Really, that is better than telling everyone that the hull is his design because he is giving credit where credit is due (I never did question his build quality- i know his stuff is strong, and if you dont thing they are, just look at one of them). Same way with the lightning HST. That HST is awesome, John is keeping the hull alive. where else can you get a NEW HST? if this HST is built anything like the lpb stv, then it is the best built new hst anywhere. I like that HST , it is an awesome hull.

it ain't exactly as tight as an indy car cockpit is it? i'm about 6'4",
260 lbs but feel heavier than that after i've been on my feet all day.

what kind of speeds would an off the rack 200 or 225 push this boat?

The seat is snug, but you can put the 21ft seat in it like Beko did. A 200 will run in the 80's, a 225 in the 90's, maybe 100 with a 225 Promax.
