I scavenged a SS intercooler from work and am considering it for a surge tank. It holds 40oz wieghs 6lbs. It was, I think used for cooling bearing oil. A coil used to run through it but that is why it was tossed. Anyway this is rated for 450 psi shell pressure. is there any advantage to using it on the high pressure side?
If the pump lost fuel prime would this mean the tank also would depressurize?
I might even be able to lighten it some, but not much. There is a flange on the top where the cap bolts on. I could eliminate this and have it welded.

Is the 40 oz capacity enough?

The observation is that if you run a a surge tank you are also running a water seperator, but not in a good way!
Think about it, a bottom fed tank that will hold fuel. After shut down any water will seperate.
After the test of my "water seperator" of the spin on type I don't think water in the fuel is a very big concern, unless you have some type of wierd water action on your tank. If you do then a surge tank may be a problem. Or it might purge the water without damage, thats a guess though.

I has to be before the pump That is its purpose, to make sure the pump never looses its prime.
