My buddy calls me last night and asked if I wanted a 1000 merc. I told him "sure". It seems some scumbag went to the access, put the boat in the water (stuery), scraped the numbers off it, pulled out and left it with the plug out. The boat looks to have sat for some time. It has a 100 hp merc circa 65 on it with tilt n trim and all. We called marine patrol and they checked it out. The guy left his fishin license in it. BUSTED. We didn't stay long enough to find out if he was smart enough to leave the HIN on it. I told em if they find him, I will take the boat, but he has to pay his own fines. The thing was sittin on the bottom up to the top carb. I wanna hurry and get it cleaned out before it is worthless. (The motor not the boat). 3 people saw him do it, too. He is in DEEP.

"I wanna hurry and get it cleaned out before it is worthless. "

You're pretty well gettin' in that range now 18 hrs later, if not past it already. They'll last better submerged for a short while than they will once you pull em out. Once dry the rust starts in with a vengence. If you do have an oportunity to get it, don't forget the starter motor and distributor bearings also.

The fuel tank and battery were still in it, too. I got those out before they ended up on the bottom.
