Found nothing at A.P.B.A. I would like to know the speed records of the various outboard racing classes.
Thanks

At the top of that page, put in either OUTBOARD RIVER RACER (incl. bass boat and one-off OB kilo runs) or OUTBOARD PERFORMANCE CRAFT (OPC vee's and tunnels).

Then you won't have so many records to sort through.

Gee Val, make him work a little bit for it :p

BTW Val, I finally got Louis' old 15' Laser :D
I sent him a PM telling him that I picked it up, I think he lives less than an hour away from me

All I could find in OPC was sst records. I'm just getting back into this after a long layoff. I was looking for V bottom records, used to be Family "J", etc. maybe they're not available anymore. I see they have a Formula V class, but no breakdown on engine/boat, etc. Thanks anyway.:(
P.S. If they're limited to 100 cube what happens with the Vs/V6.

Famliy J had a kilo record of 79 mph for a long time. I'm not sure that it got broken before the class went away. I know that the record was not set with an 150 XS lower unit but with the standard 150 lower unit.
I don't remember what the weight was for FJ, maybe around 800 lbs ? or so.

Well, I went through it all and couldn't find any Family J records.

I even went to the UIM site, which has world records dating back to the 1960's:
http://www.uimpowerboating.com/index1.html

But there was nothing there either.

It could be that nobody went to a Kilo run to go for the record?
We need Jeff G. for this one - he'd probably know.

Here are some details about the other classes:

From http://www.apba-racing.com/Categories/OPC/classes.html

FORMULA V
The only class still using V-bottoms, these boats use any production based engine up to 100 cubic inches. Using a "formula" for handicapping the boats by weight you will see engines from 50 to 100 c.i. on 13 to 16 foot boats. Allowing for engine modifications these boats will reach top speeds of near 80 mph. Almost a run what you brung class, it is not unusual to see boats and engines older than the drivers.

Record: Speed Record Holder Year
Kilo Straitaway - No Record
4 lap ¾ mile competition 56.639 Ron Titus 1998
3 lap 1 mile competition - No Record
4 lap 1 ¼ mile competition 65.478 Steve Cooper 1998
3 lap 1 2/3 mile competition - No Record

FORMULA 150
Is a class designed to keep the cost of racing down. This powerful V-6 class uses engines built from bone yard parts. It requires 2.5 liter stock blocks and can produce 250 hp. More powerful than an SST 120 and much less expensive than Champ boats this tunnel class can really rip. The powerful engine make older SST 120 boats feel pretty darn powerful. Great class for drivers/owners that like to tinker.

FORMULA 150 Technical rules:

Do you live near Spicewood? That's where Louis is now.
Bet he'd like to see his old boat.

Thanks again, when I started my V bottom career back in 73 the family classes were very competitive, I know the "J" class was running in the 80s. I'm curious what the little 3 cylinders were running.

Family J became J-Production (JP). Louis Collins holds the kilo record, 86+ mph with a 15' Laser and 150XS. JP's last year was 1986.

Val, I'm in Pflugerville, about 25 miles away. He might want to wait till I'm done redoing it though. I got pics of it on other posts, I'll post one here tonight after I get home.

John, I knew about that record which led me to buy that very boat, Louis knows I was was going to go get it.
