Has anyone ever had any expierience running a Merc 260 on a 21ft Checkmate? I have a customer who wants to buy a 260 from me to put on his 21ft Checkmate. He wanted a 300, but waited too long and I sold them all. Any info would be appreciated. Speed, props, hieght, setback, and pros and cons. Thanx, WILDMAN

Is this an old or new Checkmate? Starflight, Pulsare?
You're going to need alot of setback to get the motor to lift the heavy bow'd Checkmate. My buddy had a Pulsare with a 225 Optimax and it ran 77 MPH (GPS) He tried his 225 ProMax and it was slower by a few MPH, because it was lighter and didn't get the bow up like the heavier Opti did. Strange but whatever works!:D
A 300 on a 21 Pulsare will push it 85+, a 300X in the 90's

Min 12" SB, 25/27P Tempest Plus will net you 75-76 w/ a 260 on a Starflight ......nothing less than a 300 to bust 80 and then barely....Need allota horsies but good stout semi-rough (bay) water hull. Stock case w/ modified (lowered) water pickups or blunt nose LWP. Not likely to truly surface a chopper but will run most efficient @ 2" under w/ Tempest Plus.

90+ with a 300X. ProMax 300 would probably be mid 80's

Chased one for 2 miles last weekend in rough water. Couldn't keep him in sight. He had three people in the boat and was cornering faster than my boat's top end.:( Nice looking boat with a 225 pro Max. He said 78mph top end. Custom dual exhaust that i've never anything like. Maybe he'll post pics of it on here sometime. Now I want a bigger boat like that.:)
