whats up MAN?
glad you like that Fancy Yellow motor
i didnt do EFI cause of a couple of theories pertaining to Physics
one of the most imporntant is ..moving a large mass from one place to another
(money from my wallet to someone elses)
seriously i like carbs and ill put one of my carb motors up against an EFI set up on a similar motor any day
i aint knockin EFI im just sayin if you do carbs rite you dont need to have an EFI, plus carbs are CHEAP!!!!

Small amounts of air (6 small holes)move quicker and easier than
one large amount of air(a stock efi horn)

Best thing about this motor is it was all junk i had left lying around the shop floor that was thrown together

im preparing to back up my claim at the september Eustis race with this motor on my Seebold tunnel
WELL SEE

P.S. that boat of yours looks AWSOME !!!
makes me miss my viper

TO 1 BADSTREAM...it will cost you to buy another motor
..To get 300 hp you need 2 ...2.4`s i just dont think it will happen too easily

To Page(SPN 43) when i have some time i would like to go out with you boys and try to race in circles ...work will slow up in september .i havnt even started the 2.5 since youve been to the shop..........P.S. i saw you running on TV at a race up north
and you can sure run that boat well! i need you to teach me to turn like you !

TO Jay Smith today as always YOU DA MAN!!!
i needed to dress up that motor to put your flywheel on it
because your flywheel looks so awsome

TO ALL i dont mean to sound like im talking big
and that i know it all or that im the best thing since sliced bread!
i just do alot thinking and alot of reading and ask lots of questions from people i know are great engine builders and racers.
most of my questions are answered by JAY SMITH(JSRE)
i have seen what works , and i have seen what doesnt work
i go about things alot different than most other people
i have made many mistakes on motors i have experimented on for myself. this motor may be one of those!
the stuff i did to this block and pistons is stuff i have never seen or heard of before and may not work at all.
i know that the JSRE flywheel will work and the heads that JSRE are cutting will do what they are supposed to but thats it.
This motor was built to specific ODBA sport racer rules
so i had no choice in where i could do my work
the piston/rod/wristpin assy weighs 750gms assembled
WELL CALL THIS MOTOR A 2.4 BANG! cause it wont last long
just wanted to clarify this

Thanks for the kind words ,

You have some well thought out ideas and if people did'nt try new things the racing world would stagnate ! I have always thought , like you, you do things like everybody else thats who you run like !

Good luck my friend !

Hey Jerome the spacer plate works and looks great....on the little boat.... now all I need is for you to get with me on four more for my big boat...Big yellow would look good with the four mota's painted yellow also.....don't I get some kind of a price deal since I'm buying five of your'e spacers.....????Got another Boosa in the 180 mph's in the quarter...no wheele bars & on street tires.....with carbs I might add....he keeps winning thousands of dollars a race.... he street races all over the country....I will stop in and C ya after we get back from the next event.....maybe I will go up to Eustis when you go.....AMF-----WHUUUUMM....BAAAAAAAAAAA.....damn musta short shifted....

I have seen this motor. those parts arn't junk. junk is Jay's way of saying "good parts not being used", also all the work is all pro.
I'm not gonna give any of his tricks away, but many man hours have been spent on minor minor details.

However.i will back up his claim of this motor being a gernade. he's done ALOt of radical work to this motor. it will either create a ton of ponies. or it won't run at all. if it does it probly won't last long. but Jay only needs it to run one quarter mile at a time!!!

Awesome job skippy!!!

Good to hear from you RICH MARTIN!
the block i sold you is almost identical
i would have to look at them closly to tell them apart

i sold rich this block and delivered it to him on my way to New York
we met at a gas station that was closed(no lights on ) at like
12 or 12:30am in MIMS Florida couldnt see a thing

i cant wait till you assemble that thing! keep me posted

i finally found the time to test this motor the other day
i have to say that if i didnt personally bolt this motor on myself i would have said my 2.5 was on the back
i have never heard a motor wind up so quickly under a load
SO....I guess i was right

after ya break'in, and ya put 10 hard passes on it, break it down and check ya pistonz...I radically cut a set like dat, and after 1 test session, and 2 1/2 passes, a skirt came off(tha skirt below tha window)...it broke thru tha window and fingerport holes...destroyed tha motor...after further investigat'in, I found all remaining pistons(not destroyed) were cracked thru tha intake holes...I have found that leeve'in sum weight on tha pistons(in tha right places) will make a kick ass mota, and will still live...Tha shape, and placement ov tha piston ports are more omportant than tha size...I don'tmeen ta rain on ya picknik, juss maybe head off tha destruction ov anuther bad assed 2.4!!!...REX:cool:

Thank you for the advice ..i know you have done a bunch of 2.4`s
i really dont think that these pistons will live long either
and i think that they will break in the same spot that yours did

i will let you all know how it all works ...Jay

I don't care how small lake is it.
I think you need waaay smaller prop.
What size prop did you run at what RPM?

lake is less than 1/4 mile long
ran a 10x17 rh cleaver
speed i said is approximate dont have speedo on boat

spn#43
11-15-2004, 11:18 PM
looks cool and 10/17 sounds ok for a top speed but I would try something smaller like 16,5 for a 1/4 mile.

MARINER RACING
11-16-2004, 06:13 PM
with the 2.5 i use a 10.5x20 for top end
when i use the 10x17 it accelerates pretty hard

i just got a plate to run a regular case on the boat
it will accelerate alot better and it will shift
well see how that all works!

so when are you building lake motors? i know this one has wild pissons in it, but how about some services for us poor bastards that gotta run 2.4s... (i did have a 2.5 efi steel bore :() PM me if you like...

theres no shame in traffic light fundraiser! I was just wondering how come you dont have an intake spacer on your motor?

Whats the point with the 2.4 buildup if the 2.5 makes more power more efficiently? Are there different classes to run with a 2.4? That is a sic buildup either way. How does it perform compared to your 2.5?

I assume his 2.5 wasnt stock that he was comparing this motor too...

MARINER RACING

the reason for no spacer plate on this motor is that all the machine work i did was so radical ...i wanted to dial this thing in and get it running correctly before adding new things to the motor
The spacer plate should be added when you know that the motor is 100% i still have some things to change around before i bolt a plate on this motor

The reason i built this 2.4 is for 2 reasons
1) with this boat there is only one drag class in the ODBA that i can run it in ...sport racer where the largest merc i can use is a 2.4L
2) i t was cheaper for me to build this motor because i had all this stuff laying around the shop and i wouldnt miss it if the motor sawed itself in half

The work i did to this block is unlike anything i have ever seen or heard of anyone trying

As for the 2.5 that i am comparing this motor to
it is a 6 steel sleeve .045 over 200hp (2.6 litre)
it has all ports mached to a 260 block and has
rod slot work, exaust chest work, 14 peddle front half
150 psi heads, and lightened /balanced port matched pistons
THIS MOTOR IS NO SLOUCH!!!
anyway with the 2.4 not dialed in all the way
i would have had a hard time trying to notice the difference between the 2 motors

MARINER RACING

Very large rod slots
The biggest youll see on a chrome bore 2.4 with out cutting into the chrome

I can verify that the engine worked well, has been on the back of my Rabco for the last 3 or 4 years, even with all the extra weight from the major repairs, and Me and Sparky in it during are chubby stage( about 550 pounds) with a 5 blade 26 prop the boat got out of he water fast and pushed it to 70 with the prop below the hull, a few seconds of adjusting motor height and trim we were flying at 80. With my 4 blade 24 cleaver the boat runs 70 with no problem and a little tweaking she is seeing 80. Speeds are on livorsi speedo being fed by a 3/8 line. Never have been able to get hold of a gps to see true numbers. Motor loves to push the boat at the 50-60 mph range, and can do so with the lower buried in the water, and a tap of the throttle and your at 70. It was definitly stronger then the 2.4 the boat came with.

Jay did make up different rods and pistons so it would hold up to years of use. Jsre cut some heads for it to safely run on pump gas.

A little paint stripper and some mercury black paint took care of the only thing that was wrong with the block
