in a word holeshot sucks, running a thru hub exhaust like my 25 laser 2 or the tempest plus 26 which i just got & tried today, midrange top end both excellent , but on hole shot when i nail the throttle, it just bogs, take about 6 seconds until the motor rpms start coming up.. tried jetting and idling timing but same old bog

It's the prop. I have a 27p laser 2 as a backup. It does the same thing. When I run my chopper the holeshot is fine. just my 2 cents Mike..

run a small hub laser 2 I have a 24 p on my 21 foot checkmate with a stock 2.4 200 I could pull 3 skiiers if i wanted & still have 65 Mph On top end...

Install boyensen reeds,They make a tremendous difference on the holeshot on a 2.4. You may also want to try a trophy small tube prop to let the motor spin up a little. The laser is not a very good holeshot prop. You're also trying to pull too much pitch for pulling up skiers. Drop down in pitch.

no skiers here, if i did i would put my 24 chopper on, screams out of the hole,, my boat is only 17'6'', so time body out there has the cure, i just don;t see how a 200 when floor with a thru hub type prop , just bogs, and put the chopper on and fine, i understand the difference between the two and have ran choppers for 17 years, i'm still tinkering with the idleing timing, and trying to get the carb shut while idleing, adjusting rpms with idleing timing, i read about something like this from t rex,us1 and other members but don't know exactly if it's the cure when a thru hub prop is put on

A Chopper lets the exhaust out on the blades of the prop therefore airating (SP?) the prop and allowing more slip.

yes i know, so everyone with an 80's model mercury 150 or 200 with a thru hub exhaust bogs out of the water,

i don't feel that all 2.4's are dogs with a thru hub prop.. my 21 FT CHECKMATE has a fresh 2.4 200 1986... i was turning a 27p large hub laser 2 last weekend... it was faster than a 24 p chopper out of the gate.... Like i said MY thoughts....

I'm currently running a 2.4 200 MERC and ran a 26 LASER thru-hub during break-in. Hole-shot was GREAT !! Looking for another to use as my 2 man fishing prop......anyone got one cheap ???
