:D

OOOps, How did dat get on the screen

Talon2.5
11-30-2001, 04:15 AM
oh oh, i see the boat is becoming an issue, what ifi said i'm thinking of selling it to pay down some bills so i can sell my house and move closer to work, it's been sitting about a month now, the last time i ran it was back around halloween, been busy and not that motivated to clean it up for the run, my main focus on this run besides bringing a toy is to meet folks when they get to blackwater and having to tend to the boat will take away from that, my schedual made me not want to even bother with the run but mike and bruce and draginfly were trying to meet up with sleekster in dec. and we all had schedualing trouble so this will give us a chance to meet up at least and mike and i have spoken on the phone multiple times and now its time to meet in person and shoot the merc **** and kill a few cells, my wife is coming and were just looking forward to a "break" from the everyday hastles and sitting with mike (and his wife?) is something i'm looking forward to, quality tech talk and a few relaxing brews!! believe me i'm pepped up to go even though i'll be dog tired from working all night, looking forward to meeting the people more than the boats ;)

looking forward to it, skip

P.S. heres the boat again just pretend its at blackwater in :)

B.Leonard
11-30-2001, 09:25 AM
I can't see how anyone could leave that at home.

Perhaps a little priority reorientation is needed here? :D Lets see... wifey talking Merc tech at a bar? I give that about a 5 min tops. Espescially with Mike's trophy wife, 5 min if that. :D

Now 100mph boat ride for 20 miles, that'll refresh you more than talkin ever will! Hose that bad boy down and tow it on out! :)

Wife is cool, I do my things, she does hers. I got it good. I will have her make me a Yogi Bear Pik a nick basket for the ride.
Plus she needs to go xmas shop for me...hehehehe

Wife stays home, this is a solo trip, She works at a Resort on Saturdays, someone has to work! She just likes to ride in boats, not talk or learn about them. Too much estrogen.

B.Leonard
11-30-2001, 05:00 PM

Where is everybody launching in astor or 44 at the park

skatermike24
12-04-2001, 12:19 PM
Everyone is launching from rt. 44

skatermike24
12-04-2001, 12:22 PM
Question for all concerned, with everyone coming to this event, where is everyone gonna park at the Blackwater Inn, I know there were problems last year, and it seems there are gonna be more boats this year, I think we should have just gone to the Glenn, what do you guys think, just a thought.

Talon2.5
12-04-2001, 12:50 PM
my boat has gotten scratched by this type of thing before see one reason for leaving it home  i did have a fleeting thought of bringing it but this helped to kill the thought, besides i want to meet the people instead of tending to the boat

B.Leonard
12-04-2001, 01:50 PM
Good question skatermike!

I was thinking the same thing but didn't really care. I figured I'd throw my stuffed animal (Blue from Blues Clues) on the dock and continue up river or head back! Toy delivered, mission accomplished! hahahahaha! Just so I'm on the water :D

-BL

skatermike24
12-04-2001, 02:04 PM
Now I understand why Talon's not bring his boat. its gonna be a cluster f#$k at the dock, we should run to the Glen and have the toys pickup up there this way everybody can hang out and bull**** like any other weekend, Black Water is way to small to handle all those boats.

WILDMAN
12-04-2001, 02:04 PM
We were going to get some lunch at Blackwater, then head to the glen. Last year, only 4 boats showed at the glen. See-ya Saturday! WILDMAN

Talon2.5
12-04-2001, 02:11 PM
remember, if ya want to have a few beers theres no alcohol allowed in the glenn (legally) so can ya park 20 some boats outside the glenn at that island by the entrance, usually everyone seems to disapate and go in different directions

B.Leonard
12-04-2001, 02:28 PM
What about dock space at the Inn? Is there enough? Is there a beach where you can beach the boat at if there isn't enough dock space?

-BL

jonnyd
12-04-2001, 02:49 PM
Well sounds like some people are staying in astor overnight and I might do the same. In that case I will launch in astor and will run to 44 at 1 pm and then come back with everybody to the blackwater. Then I can go to the glen or whereever in the atfernoon and not have to worry abaut running back up the river in the dark

Talon2.5
12-04-2001, 02:53 PM
theres no beach by the inn, the inn is at the base of the astor drawbridge on the west side, now theres an island just south of astor on the river but i'm not sure of the name of it, and very little beach there, the glenn is a ways north of the inn and slower boats may not have time to get back to hwy 44 park by dark if they go to the glenn, so hopefully we get a quick plan here now that its 3 days away

skatermike24
12-04-2001, 02:56 PM
Where is are leader at ???

Talon , thats a good idea to go to the island before Astor I think they call that Shell Island, Again for everone to go to the Glen we should have started earlier in the day.

Talon2.5
12-04-2001, 03:02 PM
i thought maybe that was called shell island but i wasnt sure

looks like i may have to bring the boat now!! but i dont have time to spiff it up my schedual dont allow that in the end of the week, well i guess we have to see what happens from here

well is shell island the place to meet after blackwater?????????????

skatermike24
12-04-2001, 03:20 PM
Well since the Glen will be to far to go that late in the day lets go to the island there before Astor. Is everyone up for that.

Rickracer
12-04-2001, 03:21 PM
...then congregate at Shell Island. Should be way better than subjecting some of these low slung or light boats to the fury of Lake George on a windy afternoon. I know I wouldn't be looking forward to crossing Lake George unless I was ridin wit Wildman.

Rickracer
12-04-2001, 03:23 PM

????????????????

B.Leonard
12-04-2001, 03:43 PM
Yeah baby! Bring on the chop! I'm ready.

"dropping the toys off" might still pose a problem if there are as many boats as I think there're gonna be.

Talon, just hose that thing off! No need to apply another coat of clear, sand and buf by Sat.! :D
I still havn't unpacked from my MS trip. I'll be tightening screws in the parking lot waiting for Wildman! hehehe :D

-BL

skatermike24
12-04-2001, 03:45 PM
Talon, how about if we all bring a towel to the ramp and we'll all help clean it up with ya!!!!:D

Rickracer
12-04-2001, 03:56 PM
The Toys for Tots people will be at Blackwater taking the donations, and there will slots open for those dropping off toys. Rus says for those interested, bring your cameras, his new boat will be there at Blackwater too. After that, he says Shell Island is a good spot to congregate, with room for probably 50 boats.I know I'm looking forward to meeting many of you guys,

Talon2.5
12-04-2001, 07:17 PM
well looks like i will put in at astor ramp, putz over to blackwater around 11 AM wait for the crowd and when the big toy drop off is done go to shell island and right at dark put her on the trailer and head to southmoon for the night, B.L. can H20 ride with you to the island and then back to blackwater with me? i only have 2 seats but will get him back to blackwater, tell him to bring a vest i only have 2

now who's staying at southmoon and who's staying at blairs, we could have an evening type get together some where too :D

oh man i gotta get some time in cleaning that poor boat

WILDMAN
12-04-2001, 07:27 PM
YO! WILDMAN here, just got home from the shop. I got a 26ft 820hp American Offshore in today for a custom paintjob, rerigging, and a 1000 watt stereo system! Cool boat! Anyway, about Saturday. We probably ought to wait and see if the lake is rough or not Sat. It's 9 miles from Astor to the glen. That's about 25 minutes. The problem with the Astor island is that there is no shallow water to get in and out of the boats. Also the cops will probably be heavy in the river, since Raceboat Russ's crash there last year. No speed limit in the lake. Just an idea, think about it. WILDMAN

B.Leonard
12-04-2001, 07:36 PM
Now you're talkin! You'll be glad you brought it when you see all these high perf outboard boats beached at that island. Your's is way too nice to leave behind. We can run down beer in mine :D

How far is shell island from the Inn? H20Nut, the Lund is runnin good, better bring a change of pants!

not far at all maybe a mile? but wildman has me wondering about the water depth at shell island, and YES the cops on the saint johns dont care for our kind

i hope the talons dirty self doesnt disapoint ya it's in need of some TLC these days i dont have much time to deal with it anymore but i'll bring it anyway

my wife hates lake george so we may not go to the glenn, had alot of rough runs on that lake over the past years

i see wildman beat me on the milage answer....its 2 miles

hey B.L. i just saw that post where ya said hose it off no need to shoot another coat of clear and buff it LOL :D

WILDMAN
12-04-2001, 08:18 PM
Most wives do'nt like Lk george, but hell mine won't even get in the Liberator! She says [I'm not gettin' in that thing, youneed to sell it] In the last 2 months I've been at the lake 6 times and not once could I not run over 100 all the way to the glen. It's been pretty calm alot lately. I guess we will see!!

Tony Brucato
12-04-2001, 08:32 PM
Where is the closest public ramp to the Blackwater Inn? Any good fuel docks with high test up there?

I ran there from Ed Stone park @ highway 44 bridge last year and only had fumes left in the tank.

Sounds like it will be a big turn out

B.Leonard
12-04-2001, 08:40 PM
My wife was born and raised on the Gulf Coast and is the biggest land lubber there is! I was born as far inland as you can get (Chicago IL) and can't get enough of boats! She says I need to get one of those "go fast" boats :D She says "you don't even fish all you do is see how fast the boat will go!"
LOL! :rolleyes::eek:

I hope it is rough :D I need a little handicap to run with those "go-fast" boats :D

-BL

Talon2.5
12-04-2001, 08:46 PM
theres a ramp right there at the astor bridge about a block south of blackwater inn and a gas station between the two but i'm not sure of the octane, wildman will know that were headed to his turf

WILDMAN
12-04-2001, 08:47 PM
There are two ramps in Astor, both just south of the Astor bridge. Midway Marine has 93 oct. gas. It's next to one of the ramps, just 100 yds south of the Blackwater Inn. Either your boat is real bad on gas, or it's got a leak. It's 17 miles from Ed Stone to Astor. 10 minutes if there's no cops!

H20 i'll meet ya as planned at blackwater, unless you decide to come over with B.L. but the 11 am time we spoke of still stands i'll meet ya there and we will hang and wait for the crowd take pics when they show up and when the toy thing is done go to the island and hang out some more

i told wendy there a chance of going to silver glenn.....boy that was a mistake!! she hates lake george, i guess i'm going to the island

in between work shifts today i'm whipping out the hose and interior cleaner and try to get some time in cleaning it

friday i'll hook it up to the ole truck and sat morning when i get home from work i'll turn right around and head out with the talon and head for astor boat ramp and putz over to blackwater, oh ya i have to check in at south moon first, get the room key, so it looks good for now as to what the plan is

H20 i cant believe your not staying over night your gonna be beat going back to st. pete

B.L. are you going back the same day too?

tony are you staying overnight?

WILDMAN

Hey you guys, I just thought of another spot to g o. There is a bay in the SW corner of Lk George where Juniper Springs comes out that is only 1 mile from the jetty where the river meets the lake. When you hit the lake, turn directly left and follow the shore for about a mile to the SW corner of the lake. It's usually very protected from the wind and waves. I've been there on days when the waves are 3 ft and that bay is only 6 inches. It's a good 1/2 mile across for speed runs. About 500ft from shore, it's only 1-2 ft deep and a hard sand bottom. Alot of airboats and houseboats go there in the summer. I think it may be a good spot, cause' no speed zones or cops. Check it out, even the girls won't mind and it's close to the river! see-ya WILDMAN

B.Leonard
12-05-2001, 09:08 AM
Since there seems to be more activities after the run, I'm considering staying overnight.

I'll play it by ear, I'm used to boating at night and the Lund has DGPS so no problem in going back if I decide to. If I stay all I need is solid tree or stable dumpster to lean up against or maybe just stay on the boat, we'll see.

H20nut, let me know what your plans are, no room on the drive over unless you want to sit between a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old. You could help bottle feed the 1 yr old? ;) We're driving over Friday afternoon and staying in Port Orange at my sister's place.

I'm meeting up with Wildman in Port Orange Sat. morning. I'll follow him over to ramp.

Exposed! Bout' time somebody caught on ;)

Definit advantage with aluminum. When you think about it, this hull just might see some serious speed, aluminum (light) and it has a pad (Lund calls it a "power strake").

Its hard to say, I hear of john boats with a lot less motor doing 70mph. The 235 is in dire need of a freshen up. If I can blow past the latest 35k flats boat, I'm a happy camper :D

I'm trying to steer clear of the cyclic money pit power buildup that I went through in the automotive world, so I'm taking my time and trying to find as many parts used as possible, you'll see this weekend.

Yeah, I don't think there will be to many other Yellow Hydra-Sports with open exhaust out there. I'll look for the freshly waxed Talon.

My wife is disapointed that she has to work that Saturday. On the bright side, that's good for 2 mph!!!

WILDMAN
12-05-2001, 07:22 PM
Talon, you don't have to buff off the tanic acid stains. Just buy some Sno-bol toilet cleaner and wipe it on. Your stains will be gone instantly, then just hose it off. no wiping or scrubbing!

What is the final coat on bottom of the Talon where the stains are? Imron or that cheapo brand you've been using? Clear or color?

If it's Imron at least you know it didn't permeate the paint. It probably just needs buffed with a good cleaner if its Imron. Anxious to hear how the toilet cleaner works. You try it first! :D

Just dont let it sit too long on hull. Scrub and rinse promptly.
Back at work, shouldn't be...

the bottom and sides below the rub rail of the talon is original gelcoat i never got the chance to be able to flip it and i used it every weekend without fail back when i did the paint and dash work

so now on to sno-bol, i bought a bottle just an hour ago and let it flow down the side and waited to see what would happen  well it sat there and nothing.......i rubbed the area and it started to clean up........... i looked over at where i had flowed some a little further over and it was all gone!! no stain.......i looked back at the area i had just been rubbing and no stain

so i poured a little more on in a not so even maner to get a pic of what it does and of course was rinsing as i went along, so in this pic you can see the brown stains and where its white the sno-bol did its thing

called the wife at work and said GET MORE SNO-BOL on your way home

two side effects!!

1) now i have to do the entire bottom because it ran undernieth and proved how dirty it actually is!!!:(

2) it has one hell of a foam up on galvanized trailers  i never considered that being in a hurry to get ready for this, well i rinsed it and boy that fender is clean baby!!! heres a pic of the fender, the dark spot is what the fender looked like where the sno-bol missed it, have no idea whats gonna happen to it from here but i rinsed the hell out of it!!!

now back out to do some more the wife got three more jugs of it :D

ok now i'm all done with the sides and yes the sno-bol gets my vote for quick and easy stain removal, i'll do the whole bottom later!!

I've also used muriatic acid, full strength. It ate the galvanizing off the fenders down to bare steel. That's why they foam! Sno-bol is alot milder, but you probably should be careful on the trailer. Rinse off quickly to be safe.

I'm driving up on Sat. morning from Ft. Lauderdale and will be there early, since the run doesn't start until 1 pm at Ed Stone park where will everyone be before that? I'd like to hit the water around 10am & meet up with anyone else out there.
