so far all I can see that needs replacing wood-wise is the dash & 1 small outside stringer. also, someone covered the old floor with some type of coating that will have to come off as it is very cracked & flaking. I dread that the most. And lastly, the bow needs some pretty serious bracing, it's sagging up front & was poorly braced in the center but should br pretty easily done.
BTW, this is the same 15' Laser that Louis Collins used to set an APBA Kilo record in back in the '80's I think.

Went for the fixer-upper I guess :D Good to see ya getting back into it though regardless, even if you are in over your head ;)

Just kidding! A V4 on that thing would be SWEET! Check the compressor oil, you got some grinding/sanding ahead of you :)

Hey Bruce, actually, alot of the needed repairs were already done, just never finished. Besides, I figure with a modded V-4 I can spank yer training wheel

It ain't as bad as it looks, can't wait to start on it

Take your time and make sure everything is sound on that boat. I love Laser boats though. I have a 16 (like Rex's) - awesome ride.

Thanks guys :)

David, I thought I already was a SOB  :D :D :D
(besides, thats where the 15 year old comes in, for the grinding & sanding
:D :D )

I've gone over it pretty good with a mallet, Greg, the one stringer that is bad has a bunch of holes drilled in it that were left exposed as was the dash.

BTW, it's a 15' not 14'

It better be the 15 yo's boat or else you are a ruthless dictator. Actually a good leatherneck should keep ther itchies away.

Hey, he's gonna get to drive it when it's done, besides, that boy grew up on construction sites for many years when I was a carpenter. He used to help me build cabinets in the garage too.
He knows all about the "itchies" :D
Went & bought a new angle grinder with the sanding attachment just for the floor as well (He LOVES using my power tools, we're a couple of Tim Allens when it comes to tools)
For his B-Day last week he got a new mechanic's toolset
He knows how to use nail guns, jig saw, skilsaw, sawzall, router, tablesaw, etc (plus he knows how to use them SAFELY)

Whatever makes you feel better...I still think you're diabolical. Here I'll give you hacks something to shoot for

besides, it's already stringered & has knee braces, plus the only stringer that needs replacing is only about 3" tall.

There's also 2 lead weights bolted down up front & those things are coming out, too bad you're so far away, I'd invite you over for some beers & you could get itchy with us (I plan on doing most of the dirty work) Of course, the heat here would probably kill ya :p

I don't know if you can see it, but in the first pic on this post, the bow has a major dip in it, think I got it where I want it in this pic.

this is the approximate placement ot the center seat, want a bench in the rear

WharfRat
08-11-2004, 09:27 PM
really hate to do it to this boat due to it's history, but contemplating cutting it out here to make more room for the rear bench seat

WharfRat
08-11-2004, 09:29 PM
going to do cut outs here to make room for storage on each side

gonna glass in a piece under the bow from deck to hull to brace the bow so it can be walked on. Once that's done I plan on flipping it over & doing the bottom first completely painted before I flip it over to finish the top side. Any ideas or comments on that ?
