Cruising about 5000 rpm in a long sweeping turn, all of a sudden there's a small vibration for just long enough to say "what's that...." then thump thump thump, massive shakes. Shut it down. Trim it up and from the boat it looks like I lost a tip of a blade. I'm thinking OK, we'll just idle in. Not good, won't turn. Anyway, I'm looking for a V4 gearcase..

Joe,
It's a 2Liter V4. Gearcase was off a 94 crossflow. I'm looking for a small case, 13 spline. I'm not sure what the drive shaft length needs to be anymore, I left my notes at the lake.

Yes, Intake was lowered, and blended so water riding up the case flows into the intake

Didn't hit anything. No damage to leading edges. Something gave up - Shaft broke or bent then drove prop into cav plate, and forward into the trailing edge of the bullet. I haven't pulled it apart so I don't know what gave up first. The paint shows some crazing outside the bearing carrier so the case may be a little out of shape. I blipped the throttle a couple times as I was comming off plane a little too fast...it shuttered, but I don't think the prop was turning anymore. Look how one blade is bent forward and the other bent back.

One of the bearing carrier retaining bolts snapped, and let GC fluid out, water in. Bearings cooked, shaft bent just inboard of rear bearing. Seals were OK. Bearing carrier was not pinned.

I've been trying to get a hold of YOU.
I saw you go by in the AM and thought I saw you getting towed back. I just don't know where you are in Sand Point.
Bummer dude
Sorry 'bout that, just stop by and visit, I'll be on the beach this week;)

Trikki,
We'll be back up 8/6-15. I've got a new gearcase on the way, and/or a 15 spline in the shed if the new one doesn't make it in time.
We're the third cabin on the left, just before you go down the hill to the beach. Three adirondack chairs on the porch.
Both my father and I are in the market for an STV after the ride in your boat.
And yes, that was me, it gave up just past the manor.
