and get chewed up by the flywheel? My mechanic said I'm missing a piece and it may have been chewed up by the flywheel. He also said something about it may have got sucked in the intake? The motor has what he calls a hick-up? Is this from the foam? and is it serious?

If it starts to come loose or gets gas soaked just rip it out. Very common. If a small piece gets injested as long as it isn't holding something like a carb open it can do no damage. If it gets into the motor it will just come out the other end like..... well you get it.

It is there for sound deadening. You can put new stuff back in but don't try to glue back the loose insulation. It is usually oil/gas soaked and will just come off again.
