Hey there,

i' ve already started a thread a long time ago about a prop. But now i have it in my hands and i can see numbers on it. The prop came of a 2.5merc. It is a stainless steel 3-blade "cleaver" (i think, sharp blades). i've found 48-66/24-24 marked on the center of the prop. Guy told me it was a surface prop.. What the hell is that used for, what are its benefits.. and how much is a prop like this worth? Someone interested hehehe? Thnx i would appreciate any help..

greetings

Sounds like a basic 24 pitch cleaver to me. Guy called it a surface prop as it is designed to run high in the water, effectively with one blade breaking the surface. Lots of guys on here should be able to tell you advantages and disadvantages of a cleaver, but value is going to be anywhere from $100-$500 Depending on condition.

You should do a search on "cleaver" or roam around the forums, you should see lots of info..

The key characteristic of a cleaver is that it lifts the stern of the boat. Most prop designs (choppers, big drum bass boat propellers, all derivatives there of) push the stern down and lift the bow to a certain degree. What kind of propeller you want depends on your hull and what speed you run it at.
