I have a older 140 Johnson and it keeps sucking the prime ball closed on the fuel hose... Any suggestions..

Check valve in the bulb is probably bad or you have some other restriction between the bulb and the fuel pick up. Fuel line could be pinched. Replace the bulb and the problem will likley go away.

It is a brand new line...
I havent used the boat for a few years and I had the same problem before.. Then I put a spring in the ball to keep it from completely collapsing but it still would pull somewhat closed..

Check your gas tank vent, it might be restricted.

What kind of tank? Line and bulb, who made them? Quick disconnect on the pan?

Both purchased at Boaters World.. Believe they are both made by Tempo...
The boat has a steel tank but the same thing happens with that tank too...
Purchased two portable tanks due to price of fuel ... I live on the water and the marina's are nuts for their fuel pricing...
I thought about running braided line but you would still need the prime ball...

Some crappy gas plugged up my water separator/filter. Ended up replacing it 3 times before I finally got all the crud out. It would collapse the ball.

Might sound like a stupid question but is there a filter inside the motor case??
On my normal tank I had a in line filter but on these portable tanks there is no filter..

The cap on the portable tank should have some sort of little rond thing in the middle of it. Have you turned this counter clockwise when you run the boat.

Not really a filter but there is a screen on the fuel pump. If your sucking the bulb down your problem is downstream of the bulb not on the motor.

I have the vent opened on the tank...
I found on another site where a guy was having the same problems with Tempo lines.. he bought three until it didnt suck the ball closed..
are there any other manufactures out there.. everywhere i check i only find Tempo... I did find a different stock number for a Tempo one that says the line is braided but wonder if the ball is the same...

If the bulb ends where the hoses push on are red get rid of it. Have seen powerhead failures. Nothing like quality oem parts.

I thought I had it figured out ........but wrong.........
Mercury Marine online has parts for Johnson's also and they list two hoses 5/16 and 3/8 and recommend the 3/8 for over 120hp..so I just went and checked and I did buy the 3/8 one.. but it is a Tempo brand...
Wonder if the Mercury one will be heavier duty... On their website they notate "Original style" on this stock number... Not sure what that means...
