I have a 1985 v4 looper I am boring to 2.0 spec 3.685 but this will put clearance at 4 thou and this seems tight to me I want it as tight as possible but not tooo tight I was thinking 5-6 thou any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks Matt
p.s. they are std bore 1988 omc pistons, not wiseco

Depends on what you're gonna do with it. Stock, original intended use with the right break-in 4-5 is probably ok. People run the Wisecos a thou or more from 6-9. Are they new pistons? Used? That will make a diff also.
If the motor is going to see some hard use with a lead foot driver that can't spell "break-in" or "warm-up" :D I'd set it at 7-8 up to 9 for a forged Wiseco. Somewhere in between for other uses. It's nice to keep it tight because the rings wear a little better and the motor has a bit more compression at low speeds but that won't mean a whole lot if one of them smears.
