motor dies when put in gear

I have xr4 with some mods, every time I put it in gear, I have to give it gas or it will go dead, hot or cold. Motor idles good and runs good. What could this be?

Idle set too low maybe.

from what you wrote, idles good and runs good

sounds like you just need to bump up the idle screw and/or idle timing so she idles higher in gear

I might need some help here, were do I set the idle? Is it at the carb or linkage?

linkage,the big arm on the side of the block.the screw is on the bottom.

thanks for the picture and the help. Going to the river today Ill see if that helps.

If you adjust it on the bottom, you mess it up. It will open the carbs off the seats. Better to adjust with A shown, thats the real way to adjust the Idle, the other way not as good. The top screw is for Max timeing Don't adjust that unless you know what your doing.:eek:
