well, another v6 foot came my way. broke of course.
it's a non preload, with a bobs cone, lwp. the guy runs it
with a 26 chopper usually surfaced on a Venus. anyway, this time
the drive shaft twisted off half way up the pinion bearing and I can get the bottom piece of the driveshaft out. the pinion is loose. but, the bottom of the shaft is seized in the bearings...
any ideas how to get it out, besides a bfh and a new case?
anybody have a non preload housing to part with? thanks..

If the short peice is seized in the bearing try to drive it through with a old shaft or socket ect. the bearing may come with the peice of broken shaft . If the long peice is seized put the shaft in a vise and tap the gearcase until it pulls out , you need to use some wood and big hammer .

If you mean it is stuck inside there a slide hammer might work if you can hook to it somehow. I used to have one I made for bearings that had a big iron pulley on it. Hard to use but didn't need to use it much to get stuff apart.

after much screwing around, i finally decided to drill a hole in the bottom of this lower unit, in the pinion area (no bearing surfaces) and drive the broken driveshaft out with a 12" 1/4 drive extension and a 3# sledge... It worked. I'm amazed the pinion bearing is welded into one mass of metal..
