Nope, it's not my new screamer. Neighbor asked me to get the rig ready to put in the water and I noticed that the butterfly only opens about 3/4 of the way. Is this by any chance correct for this motor? If not, anyone know the correct way to adjust it? If you tamper with the link between the throttle and spark advance, then the cam follower doesn't line up with the mark at dead idle. Messing with the end of the cable seems to help but also affects the idle position of the throttle, but not as much. Doesn't appear to be any other adjustment besides the end of the cable itself. Anyone know the correct procedure??

By the way, the battery took a charge after sitting in it for two winters and not running at all last year. Old dirty socks laying in the boat from two years ago and everything. Yep, you guessed it....it's a Bayliner.

Well, mine had about 8" of wet leaves in it:D Good old bayliners, can hold any kind of trash you put in it.

My 85 is a chryco, could be different. It also was a 3/4 throttle item. The adjuster on my arm to the flywheel is for wot full advance, and so I could not use that to change it. I think I changed the cable. It does not matter where the timing is at idle, as the timing change sets the idle speed...so you set the idle speed that way after you get the wot right...on this one anyway, and make sure the controls still pull it down to idle securely.

Now with this it made more noise when I go to that extra throttle, and I swear I can hear the reeds in there buzzing. Didn't matter until I got to max rpms, then added 1+ mph gradually if I stayed on it for a while. Must have been at about 5000-5200rpm wot then, the rated rpm with a max of 5500 allowed. So after I messed with stuff and got it going faster at higher rpms, then the extra throttle seemed to be more effective. Now at about 5700+rpm max wot it goes faster when I get it all the way open (well it is that way much of the time yes, lol) and hear the noise. Maybe it makes 3+mph difference now. Have more cup in the prop now, so I will have to see what it does when I get it on there. Hope I get it ready this weekend.

On the other hand, I think it may be correct for the motor to be this way. It does make a distinctive noise when you go past that point. I don't think mine had been messed with and I know it had a new block that was installed by a dealer, all service by a dealer before I got it.
