I just found a perfect, low hours, 1978 200hp evinrude that may actually fit in my budget(under$1000). My concern is that it will be too heavy. I'm not concerned about the HP, I was looking for a 150-200 v6 anyway. These motors just seem to be a bit heavier from what I've read. Will this really screw up my handling? If I get it, I plan on putting a manual jackplate on with about 5.5" of setback. I will also move the battery to the front. Also, how high can I jack this motor, before I lose water pressure(with no mods, aside from plugging top holes, to the LU)? My CVX17 only weighs 875 dry according to brochure.
Thanks,
Jake

with a 175 Mercury and it's great. It's a 142ci motor though so it's about as light as a stock V-6 gets... It handles the motor fine and is easy to drive. Her's is mounted on the transom and even still uses the stock single steering. It's fine for skiing and riding around the lake. The 200 OMC will not be much of a problem from the horsepower perspective but the weight might be a bit of a problem.
Just don't put it too far back and make sure that your steering is good and tight.
Also, I have the factory windshield still wrapped up in the factory packaging. Never installed. It's a 1985 model ws and it's just taking up space in the garage. If you know of someone needing one, let me know.

The motor on your mom's is more what I am looking for, but for under $1000..., beggars can't be choosers!! My windshield is in pretty good shape, but if in the near future I decide I want a spare, I'll send you an email. Another question for people familiar with the motor I'm looking at, what are some good props for it? Are good props hard to find? And last, can I get solid motor mounts for it?
Thanks,
Jake
