I did not go last year but they run right outside the Atlantic City inlet down the coast for few miles. You could put in at Chestnut Neck which is right off the Parkway and run about 12 miles to AC.
Get some times from Herb and we could all meet. Let me know, Chuck.

Chuck I am going to be down Saturday. I'll send you an email with directions. Maybe you can stop with the boat. Mine's not ready yet.

Helmut, stop in if you are going to be there. We have a new house right on the bay now so call for directions.

Yes, are you taking your boat ? I think SKATER24 is going to, along with a few other larger boats from the marina.

As far as bringing boats there's plenty of water to run in back in the bays. there's even a river not too far away all accessible by boat.

07-16-2004, 01:43 PM
I live on the river(Mullica), the race take place in the ocean, in front of the beach, you could anchor on the other side of the course. Not really any place to beach and watch from( that I can think of).Chuck.

I'll be at my house on Great Bay Saturday, and until noon on Sunday. My house is on the other side of the bay from AC, give me a call if anyone is in the neighborhood.

I'm bored, just sitting on the deck at the shore house with nothing but a lame Grady White to go out on. Was hoping one of my hot boat pals would come give me a ridesy but no one has shown up yet!:(

I need a break from babysitting too.

Kinda wish I had brought the Virage down with me so I could work on it.

10:30 AM just started raining and the wind is beginning to whip. My guess is, it's really nasty on the outside of AC. It's pretty rough there on a good day. I wonder if it was cancelled.

Chuck, I was jonesing to see your boat. Sorry the rain got in the way. I won't be down next weekend but probably the weekend after with my boat. See you then.

the sun was poking through, wind died down some, very light rain, almost a drizzle. It's actually not that bad out now. Kinda looks like it might stay this way.

So did they race? Was there any SOBs? What happened?

Fast Shafts
07-19-2004, 10:22 AM
No SOB's showed up-this might be a good thing, there were 4-6' waves with an occassional 8'. I throttled the Carrabbas Boat, 28' Pantera 500 HP, we finished 3rd in P5, our fastest lap was 46 mph. The winner in P5 only averaged 49 mph. This was a real offshore race.

Yes it is....

From the OPA website:

PT. PLEASANT BEACH, NJ - AUGUST 12 & 13 - 2004

Pt. Pleasant Beach has hosted the longest standing race in the USA. It is home of the famous Benihana Grand Prix and the Hennessy Grand Prix from the early 1970's. Today, the tradition continues through the Jenkinson's Boardwalk, Pavilion and Aquarium. Jenkinson's has recently been the main supporter for this race. The Jenkinson's Racer Party on Thursday, August 12, has always been the most coveted ticket to secure. Sometimes harder to find than a major sporting events finals. On Friday, August 13, race day, the rocks of the Manasquan Inlet can be one of the most memorable sights a race fan can cherish as the entire fleet of race boats come charging out at high speed, then hitting the rolling breakers at the mouth of the inlet hurling the race boats to heights never before imaginable. This is a Pt. Pleasant Beach tradition that's not to be missed. As if that wasn't enough, now enjoy the grueling ocean race as the boats almost appear to come onto shore as you watch from a day on the beach or sipping your favorite refreshment from the Jenkinson's Pavilion.

JnT... Anytime !;)
