Its been a while and a few off you have been asking for some info/ pictures of the progress so here it goes. When i flipped the boat over after the new core was put in, the bopttom was FULL of cracks and a few holes.. I had the boat listed for sale because i thought i would never finish the project. Anyways after 2 weeks of sanding and filling and sanding and filling i took the boat to Mark at tuff marine for paint and ended up gettin a new transom to, I wish i could have done more of the work but time is killing me workin 10-12 hour days in a machine shop.. Anyways Mark did an awsome job painting it and the new transom looks killer, not to mention i porobably drove him nuts asking "is it done yet".. Heres a few pics..

Hey thats lookin really good!

When you gonna see water with it? you have lots of time to make Couch beach day! ;)

Isn't it always time or money, you never have both for a project.

I never got mine from MI, no clue what happened with that deal. Capt insano hasn't replied to a few PM's so I've given up basically. I guess that boat went elsewhere(????)

Cheers

The splashwell sure looks good!! You are going to have to be real carefull coming off plane though, Vectors are bad for swamping the back with a V-6 on them.

No its still sitting next to my garage, I have'nt been home in almost two months, so damn busy down here. I'll be in touch. My birthday is monday and come hell or high water I am out of here for a long weekend. My burgess is sitting ready to go and it's just killing me. I'll drag it down to work when I come back because I REEEEEEALY need the trailer.

Sorry to hijack your thread for a min here Fibretron..

Capt nice to see you're still alive down there! I just wasn't sure if you were just swamped with work or what. If you're that busy I really don't mind at all coming all the way to your place, seriously its just a road trip. Say the word and I will come pluck it right off your trailer and it will be done. Next weekend may actually be good for me. Just let me know when is good for you. I just didn't want to keep calling feeling like I was buggin ya for it.
I can move it whenever you are ready.

Cheers

If you need a hand during the week and it will make the difference let me know I could come by and do whatever you need a hand with. I'd like to see the "guts" before you put the interior in anyway

Fibertron,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Boat looks GREAT!, Mark does beautiful work!.

Call Paul Kryskow at 905-775-0862. This is Top Gun Marine, he has BY FAR the most motors around, Paul is very good at what he does, and his prices are very good. The ONLY other shop in ontario to go to is Speedmaster, 905-939-0963.

Good luck.

the other problem with the motor is the swivel bracket(the thing that holds the steering arm is bent) since it is a casting i have been advised not to bend it back, my question is can i bend the stainless steel steering arm to fit into the dual cable bracket... is this safe will it work...

mendo
07-27-2004, 05:48 PM
I wouldn't alter any of the good parts to work around another component that is bent anyway and may break from stress.

If that arm is bent it has been weakened.

do it right, use good parts.

Hi Brian,
My brother has a mint XR 4 150 that came off the Challenger project. Solid mounts in, stock case though. I think he wants about $4,200 or so for it. I have a video of it running on the 21.

Thanks mark, I think im gonna fix the 135 i just found a swivel bracket at speedmaster so nothing is going to be bent now.. its still pretty lame though a vector with a 135, it will have no balls untill next year anyway. can someone please give me an expected speed, im running a 24 pitch chopper, jackplate, and its a standered gear case...

depending on what it will rev I'm guessing 50 ish

just a gues though

mxz

Brian, You should easily see 60+ with your 135 assuming you have 1.87 gears, more if it will rev over 6 grand. If your gears are 2:1 then it will be hi 50's maybe 60

skidoo29
07-28-2004, 05:23 PM
the "ish" part was not knowing gears and rpm's

at 5500 with 1.87 gears 10% slip, it will be low to mid 60's

Vectortron,
MarkHP is getting 60 on GPS with an OMC 120 turning a 24 Raker. I'm betting high 60's. We got mid to high 70's with an XR2 (2:1) and 28 small blade.

Hey Bryan,
get in touch with Tim from the club. I was talking to him at the season opener and he had a motor that may work well for you. I was asking him a bit about it for my Vector, once it arrives. If I recall it needed a lower unit rebuild or something.
I think his screenname here is Speedyfast? If not thats his friends, I can't recall (hard enough remembering real names!) Someone from the club like AnthonySS or Flatout would know
Cheers

(be good to see the boat at Couch even with the 135)

Hi Bryan. Back from holidays and finally had time to catch up on the forums. I am leaving for Vermont tonight for the Lake Champlian Milk run but if you tell me what size hole saws you need, I can bring them home and you can have them for the weekend if you still need them.

I am Speedyfast (Morgan)
Tim's engine is still available, i believe it is a 175, and yes it needs a lower. Try him on his cell at 416 877 0280. The engine is in Muskoka just north of Gravenhurst.
Boats lookin' awsome by the way

Bryan

Bryan, you can attend because there is really no "event" as per say. Just a friendly get together at the beach. We could give you a membership form while you are there though.

PM me your address and number and I'll try to drop by sunday to have a gander. I have a 25 foot cat that needs a poker run and a day at the beach cleaned out of it so I will be aroiund all day sunday.
