Can someone give a run down on the "WH" #'s from the best down and a general description of the differences??

Yes...I'd love to hear about this also. I've been told that the WH 20 is a popular one but there are so many and I'd think that if some one could put togeater a list of carbs and what are the good one's. Also I've heard about pumper carbs and would like to know more about these.

the wh 15 and 20 carbs had a slightly larger bore than the various other 2.4 carbs. my opinion is that the wh 22 is the best overall performer from the 2.4 era.

20's, 22's, and 15's are the most sought after for performance...with the 22's being the most liked...sum will like 20's better than 22's but then sum will like 15's over them all...I use 20's without a problem, good luck...REX

WH-28 carbs were used on the 1985 Merc carb Mod-VP motor. I'm sure they were used on some other stock motors of the same era, probably the 200's.

The only 28's I ever had were from Mod-VP race motors. The factory put slosh tubes and float bowl baffles in them for this application. I still have a set. They work pretty good.

Wh-15's are my favorite big-bore Merc carbs. A couple of hundred RPM stronger than the WH-28's in my testing. Wh-20's are OK if the idle/low speed circuit update is done (check old Merc service bulletins from '86 or '87). Without the idle/low speed circuit update they were horrible!

WH-31's came off a Merc High Perf. 2.4 Carb motor near the end of producion, just before the 2.5's came out in '92. I have a "like new" set for sale if anyone needs them. They have the same venturi size as the 28's. They too use the factory slosh tubes and float bowl baffles.

For reference a factory V-6 shop manual from the mid-late 80's will give a list of all Merc carbs, by WH-number. It will list top, mid and bottom carb jet sizes. I haven't looked for a while, but I believe the list includes "used on" xxx horsepower data.

I have the wh20s on my 2.4 on the Daytona and they work good. I use those carbs with a cleaned up and cross drilled intake, carbon fiber reeds, milled .050 from the front case half, bridgeport tuner with 1 inch milled from the base, and some cleaning up of the exhaust ports, but no real porting to speak of. It was very snappy. It also had a set of 29cc heads. The only problem I had with the 20s was they were a little cold blooded on initial start up at the ramp and they slobbered during trailering. I would always have to clean the tray after I got home. I don't know about the idle/low speed update, but they worked fine.

Speaking of... Anybody want to buy a 19' Eliminator Daytona Kevlar with a good running 2.4? Bare hull is about 350 lbs. I can't keep both boats.
