All I did was pull the powerhead to install an aftermarket cowl with plate. Went to the lake and not much water was coming out the tattle hose but the pressure guage said I had water pressure , or so I thought. A short burst later and the oferheat alarm went off. The temp guage went from 100 to 280 in a blink. After shut down it went from 280 to 100 in a blink. Solved that problem. I was sold an alarm sender instead of a guage sender!!!! Is it possible the gasket under the plate blew?
Any advice???

did some of that when i changed cowls. i missed a little piece of the old gasket on the exhaust plate. it would heat up quick. just a thought. :)

Could be the wrong gasket??
Or the cowl plate may not have a hole in the right place?
But the tale tale comes from the heads mostly, right?
Although some comes from the mid plate on some motors.

The tattle comes from the mid only on this motor. I had this problem before so I was extra anal(so I thought) about keeping it clean. It was recommended to use PAM so the gaskets wouldn't stick so removal was possible without all the gasket cleaning> I wonder if that is the problem. Seems they can be real touchy!!!!

No tt and no idea of water pressure.
Maybe they sold you the wrong gasket too?
