... I found that the white gel coat had yellowed. Everything around it is nice, bright white. Are the suggestions for restoration in the older post about yellowed gelcoat applicable or is there a different way to treat this discoloration?

Thanks!

McGuires Wheel Cleaner. Great for in the gell coat stains, but very strong.

thanks guys! Is there a good way to protect the colored gelcoat stripes that are just below the stained area? I tried some real mild polish, but it was too fine cause all it did was make eveything real shiny!

Update .. tried the Softscrub with Bleach .. nada. Next up ... wheel cleaner ... would it be OK to use my orbital polisher with the Softscrub?

Sounds like you need to get some good buffing compound and cut away!

ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE TO SAND THE DISCOLORED ARE WITH 600 GRIT WET SAND PAPER AND THEN POLISH WITH A GOOD QUALITY COMPOUND.I HAVE DONE THIS IN THE PAST WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS.LAYERS OF MASKING TAPE WILL HELP PROTECT THE AREAS BELOW.

Did a small section of wet sanding and polishing with great results. Dang, now I need to find a huge can of elbow grease!

Forget the Elbow grease!!! Go buy a high quality variable speed wheel...the only way to go. Well worth the $150. Sanding should be your last resort! Buy a few diffent 3M or McGuires polishes/compounds/glazes and do some experimenting.
