Lance,
Our STV Euroski is a "transition" boat, and seems to be built very well. We have many hours of hard testing on it.

The Mississippi built STV's have the HIN beginning with TIU which is what I have.

My RR is a Wiggins built boat. Some people say that mississippi stv's are poorly built. I think it is a very well built boat (mine that is).

I am starting to get the impression that the Wiggins boats and Wallys boats are better built than the originals. Or is that just becouse there are more Of roarks boats out there and that they are older . More older boats = more time for damage and abuse ?
I would like to hear some opinions ?

Mine is a 98 Wiggins built boat. It seems to be built well. I researched the different builders over the years and came to the conclusion that it didn't really matter who built the boat. I think the important part is how it was used/taken care of since it was new. I wouldn't have a problem buying a Roark built boat as long as it was in good shape.

I agree. I just passed up a 1994 Euro becouse the owner said that it was stored outside with a cover. I have never seen a cover keep a boat dry. They allways sag, and hold water. High humidity under the cover is all these boats need to rot.

just bought what i was told was one of the lightest fiberglass river rockets ever built(under 500lbs) and this boat is beautiful. it's not perfect but is a 97' and has very little stress cracks. i haven't even had it in the water yet but can't wait.
there are no structural damage. and has a 300 drag the boat was used as a racer and lake boat. i'm the third owner.

I have seen Summerford boats and Wiggins boats both with Transom issues but not a Triad. Not sure if that is due to age, quality of the build or both. Regardless, I believe it depends on how it was used, stored and maintained. No different than any other 100+ boat. My 92 STV ProComp transom was perfect and my 96 Euro was not. Same builder and one was 4 years older??
Different STV deck designs are prone to gel coat stress cracks in different areas. Usually just cosmetic.
Have never seen a post about someone doing a floor or core in an STV.
Wally's Triads have a lot of upgrades including a beefed up transom and rear seat supports on each side. There are pics and a description on STV owners.com.
Just my opinion for what its worth. Probably not much!
Good luck with your search. They are great boats.
Awesome looking Rocket!

When did Wally start beefing up the transoms and back seat supports ? was it right when he took over ? or has it developed over time ?
Pirogue. That is a nice looking River Rocket. I would almost buy a river rocket just to have a boat named a river rocket. I think that that is the coolest name ever !!

Check it out.

Looks like Helmet's 98 is beefed up too so maybe the Wiggins guys came up with that upgrade. You can see that the stringers are attached to the top deck. The older ones weren't.
Just make sure you get some pics of the transom inside and out on any of the ones you look at. Re-enforcing them is no big deal. There are posts on that as well.

I owned a 1993 Euro Ski with some minor cosmetic cracks in the transom area. Just gel-coat, has anyone ever had a complete failure of the transome, or hull from an STV? My boat was built by Roark. I know of a brand new Hydrostream that disintegrated after about 20 hours of service. Pipkorn gave him a new boat, and the insurnace company paid for the boat too. nothing was left but the beak, (nose), dash, steering wheel and cables. The engine was on the other end of the steering cables. This guy was running about 85 or 90 and the boat just disappeared. His ass was cutting cartwheels across the water. I have seen the Mirage boats have stress problems too.

i had bo carpenter build my river rocket in feb 98. i lost a lower unit in nov of 98 at 103mph boat fell on the sponsons then the back end slammed down and the front end kited turned to the right and landed on the right rear corner. broke the front seat rear seat(came out of boat) bent the steering wheel and left 5 spider cracks on the right corner about 7-8" long. it held up great considering what happened. went thru the hole boat looking for damage and all i found was cosmetic. those guys did a good job

There is NO CORE in the STV Racing Stv's that I have seen....however the floors are wood and I know of one that has been replaced.
Like most said they are all good to a degree, it just depends on the the previous owners care and as I spoke to you Lance there are some issues to look for
