Hey guys as an update to my 89 v6 Yammie troubles ive discovered that the trim/tilt motor is only slow/noisy when i have both trim/tilt motor solenoid wires attatched. If i remove the green (down relay wire) and tilt up it works fine. If i remove the blue (up relay wire) the motor tilts down perfectly. It seems though that there is no way to get both wires hoocked up without causing the problem. As obviously i need to be able to tilt both up and down i am in a lot of trouble. Please give me some ideas. Tanks heaps.

has to be a short some where
try bypassing different circuits until it runs right.
I use a Makita cordless drill battery and jump it.
You can start by pulling the hot lead off the solenoids and replace them with the Makita battery.
If that makes no difference it may be a solenoid.
Pull the harness that goes from boat to solenoid and jump from battery to solenoid supply side and then jump from the hot lead to switched side of solenoid. If it's still slow, jump direct to power/out side to trim. If it's fast/correct it's a solenoid starting to short with bad wiring/harness goinmg to trim motor.
Hope this helps. I am spoiled by using those little batteries.

89 model had a dual relay in one box system. It has either lost ground or failed, not sure which from the description. Most failures are accompanied by a trim switch outside the Yamaha engine and control box package. If you have any other on the wheel or bow switches or transom switches either disconnect or replace them or it will blow again.
