I have an 18 baker v with a 200 merc, when the motor is trim all the way down when taking off the motor pulls real hard to the right until I trim it up about half way then it has only a very slight pull. The boat has cable steering is this right? and whats the best to fix her? I hear its normal.....
Thanks for any info these hot rod boats are new to me. I'm used to a 19 skeeter.....

All right-hand rotation props tend to pull to the right. As you have already discovered, trimming the engine properly will reduce the torque. In addition, turning the trailing edge of your zinc trim tab to the right will also help drive the boat back to the left. You can also add a "torque-tab" to the rear of your skeg on the starboard side. Raising the engine on the transom can also reduce some of this torque.......though you are limited by the design of the particular prop you are running as well as the location of your cooling water intakes. Hydraulic steering makes it much easier to steer....the torque is still there, but with hydraulic steering you do not have to work against the torque as much. Smaller diameter props such as Merc's HighFive tend to produce less torque-steer than say a large diameter prop such as a Mirage or Tempest.
So in short, torque is always there working to steer the boat to the right, but there are numerous approaches to making it easier to drive your boat.
