Don't laugh guys but my new build is awfully loud. Good for Dad...bad for Mom and little one. I really don't want to put a block off plate in or a flap. Has anyone played with making an insert that is like the inside of a muffler?

The Mad tuner definately has a different sound from a Merc piece. Merc made some mufflers for the champ mids for Europe several years back. That's why the later style champs have the threaded holes down low. It'd be interesting to see if there are still any of em around and how the affected performance. John Sherlock, who's still the honcho at Lake X, or more probably the new X Site in Panama City by now, or Mike Butler in Wisconsin both post in the historical forum frequently and maybe they can give you some ideas.

I was thinking about trying to make something like the inside of a flowmaster. I would really like to find one of those old mufflers though. I think I'll drag it down to Midas tonight:)

John posts as John Sherlock and Mike as MBD. I think most of their posts are in the Outboard and Racing History Forum.

Rich Sernc on the board. He has made some nice mufflers for the offshore and Champ mids. He used a disc type muffler. Email him, I'm sure he will share the info. ;)
