What is the main difference between these two engines (merc 2.4 bridge and merc Xr2-4)? I'm no expert, so maybe it's a dumb question, but i want to know from guys who have felt and experienced both engines well. I'm sure they are out here somewhere! Greetz!
Uh, big differences.
The XR2 was a 2.0L 150 with some mild hop-ups that pushed a bit more unofficial HP out of it. 2:1 gearcase, I believe? 6,000 rpm recommended RPM. '85-'87
The XR4 was the 2.4L 150 model, also a bit hotter than a stock 150. 5800 recommended RPM. '88-'91 (?)
(XR6 was the modern 2.5 block that replaced the 2.4L XR4.)
The 2.4 Bridgeport was a high-performance V6 with big ports and "bridge" supports that crossed the ports, hence the name. I think they were rated for 245 hp at 7-something K, right?

thnx for you info. I have a bridgeport 2.4 but saw that many speed ski race boats here, back in belgium were using xr2's etc.. So i thought, hey maybe they deliver a lot more power. Guess not having heard you... Greetz and thnx again!
The Racing "XR2" is NOT the same thing as the "150 XR2." I don't know anything about them. Sorry for the confusion.

hmm i already thought there were other types of xr2. I was asking you guys this, because earlier i was being caught up by a boat with an xr2 engine. I was not at full speed but i was surprised his boat ran so fast having said it has a lighter engine and his boat was bigger, so logically also heavier. Thnx for the replies guys!
