Maybe the longest, toughest boat race anywhere, the Yukon 800 starts Saturday in Fairbanks, Alaska at 11 AM. It has been hot, and the Tanana river (1/2 of the course) is high from glacial runoff. That means lots of open shortcuts/sloughs. Temps up to 90 are expected. Heat means lots of wind on the big river, the Yukon and a guarantee of a wild ride. More info is available at yukon800.com
Several years ago we had some jet crazies from the McKenzie River area in Canada thinking about coming to Alaska to race, I wonder if any outboarders would be interested in racing? The FOA would probably welcome an "exhibition class" for hot boats. Would have to work out the fuel thing.......
Thanks S & F
