This weekend I was doing some experimenting with the motor height on my boat and found something unusual. I have a totally restored 1970 Starcraft T-170 tunnel,it is a true tunnel. I was running about 85 mph on GPS and was raising the motor on my CMC jackplate (1988 2.4 EFI BP, Sportmaster) and the motor is normally running about 29psi at this speed.
I raised it a little more and the pressure dropped to 5 psi. I slowed down and repeated this about five more times to make sure what I was seeing on the water pressure gauge was really happening. Is it possible to raise a sportmaster high enough to loose this much water pressure and not have a case of blowout on the lower unit? I am marking the control knob on the automatic height adjuster to make sure that I never get past this point again. What am I experiencing?
thanks, Carter
