View Full Version : You Know You're An Outboard Guy
You know you're an outboard guy when:
1. You think of 7000 RPM as mid range.
2. You pre-mix everything you drink.
3. You rub 100% sythetic on your girlfriends back.
Please add more!
(If you run out of ideas, I actually stole this concept from the outboard thread on Hotboat, but let's see what you can come up with before you look over there!)

You position yourself downwind when the motor is running so you can smell it.

........when you reach for the trim buttons on the wheel when you start to slow down as you approach a stop light, or make sure you are trimmed down before you take off, or trim up when you start to accerate away from the light.
(I really am thinking about putting a start in gear button on my truck)

When you're left foot is as comfortable on the "gas" as your right.
When you spend 5 minutes looking for your tether everytime you get in the truck!!
When you look behind you everytime you slow down to make sure you don't swamp the passengers in the rear seat....even in the car :).

When someone drives you "to" or "from" the launch ramp, you ride in the boat on the trailer, and you find yourself turning the wheel to follow the curves of the road. You're having trouble getting good bow lift. You glance back to see the rooster height to tweak the trim. Both EGT's are reading cool, not turning too many RPM's, what's wrong with these gauges???

When you've drawn up plans to replace your truck engine with twin outboard powerheads. imagine that with flowmasters
When you start cooking with Klotz instead of vegetable oil.
When you think smoking is a very attractive quality to have.

You might be a outboard junkie when a new motor can be had for the great price of $20,000 and it coming with no warranty is acceptable.
You might be a outboard junkie when that new motor you just got a couple months ago is on the bench getting new rings.

You bust yer ass getting across town in rush-hour traffic to collect your new prop from the post office before they close. Even though you have no intention of using it for 3 weeks!

For the longest time I thought all motors were that way.. Needless to say I have never twisted in wrench on the inside of a 4-stroke
When you cosider the weight of everything in the cooler, plus what others want to bring on board.

When you park with the motor toward the beach so you don't get swamped by waves and people can see it...
When you never use the "plugs" on your exhust tuner...
Trim means "adjusting the motor" and not part of the female body...

When you drive across a bridge going to work, look out and see glass calm water, bust a U-turn, call in sick and drop your boat in the water.

......... when ya hop in your buddies new Fountain and get the boat to run 2 mph faster than its ever gone while he's there scared to even hold it at the dock. And when ya get back to the dock all you have to say is that it sure sounds nice !!!!!!!!!
........ when your drivinn to work in the morining and you get up to speed on the highway and you start to get the chine-walk steering chop for appearent reason.
........ when you get in the old 9.9 12' f-glass **** box and raise the motor up on 1" strapping , trim it to the max , put the red fuel tank on the seat beside you and GPS it for the 14 mph speed run.

PS ... Nothing like the smell of 2 stroke oil & 112 octane. It wrecked my cologne bottle pump though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
