Anyone out there have this set up? I'm curious to get an idea of what speed I could see if I have RP put a motor on my ride for me? Please include if it is stock or mod...

Properly set up, it should see over 100. My old Valero YT (many moons ago) ran 104 with a Bridgeport.

Mine did 90 with a 225 and a smaller wheel, I'm sure there was more if I wanted to give up holeshot. Did you pick up your Valero from RP? If he builds you a 260 and rigs it, you will definately scream and fly!

Mine ran 90+ regularly and best of 95 with a 225 Pro Max.

I have been talking with RP about trading my current motor in and buying a 260 from him. I do not race (other then the occasional wanna be...) Mostly I tool around and pull tubes or barefoot myself... I'm looking for the fast ride when I want it and switch props for skiing... (I have a few choppers and a Hi-Five for skiing... I am currently running a stock 1985 175 Mariner with a Bob's nose cone, Land and Sea Hydrolic lift, LWP, tourqe tab, and exhust ported... I have grown up with many Hydrostreams and I feel very comfortable at the wheel... I run @ 80+ now with the current set up... (I don't have a GPS but have run guys with them and have walked them, their numbers say 78 - 82.5 MPH) So I say an honest 80 if someone asks... Anyway my thought is to have a fast boat that will continue to work well for the fun side of it. I am currious if I have Solid motor mounts? How can I tell??? (please don't respond and say the motor shakes or the boat shakes...) I lost my reciept from Bob's and I don't know if that is a standard add on when installing a LWPNC or not??? Any height or set up ideas for the current motor would be a help... I believe I'm at an optimum set up and I don't think I could get any more but any info helps...

If that's your boat in the pic, don't forget, the bowriders will run a little slower than a solid deck.
You might want to consider a PM 225, it's a very nice motor for that boat, steel sleeves so rebuilds are cheaper, they are generally more reliable, and the stator makes more power, (260s are known for charging weakness and battery drain).
Oil injection is nice, and I've used it in the past, but after seeing one of those plastic driver gears shred up, I will probably remove it on my future pro maxes.
Good luck.

Could have RP work that 175 to 225 too?

The 260 is a great motor, I love mine, but I have a ski boat also. It is a race motor, not long lived, and expensive to work on.
My choice for your application would be an early model 2.5 200 with enough mods to get whatever power you want. Check with someone that knows on what years are the best. A friend of mine has a 93 XRI that is a powerful and long lived motor. The motor is stock with a low water pickup. It runs in the 90's on his STV. They are relatively inexpensive to buy and to work on, (compared to a 260).

90s on an STV will probably translate to 80s on a Valero.
Helmut's STV Euro did a bit over 100 with a PM 225

Do you have any mods on that 225 or is that stock?

Would something like that work on my 1987 Mariner 175... Is it costly to do?

I've got an 86 Volero YT w/93 260. I bought it for my kids w/200 merc, and bought the 2.5 last year. It's like a dirt bike...you will love it.
I don't go for top speed in it, and I don't let them hold it open (when I'm around anyway). Best we got was 101 GPS at the Rumble last year, that's the only time we ever tried to go 100. Used a 27 ET clone. No mods to motor, just a Jackplate.
Thay love it, noe that they can drive it...
I would HIGHLY recommend a 260.
Greg
Here's a pic of it w/my son, Rich Srnec & wife, and Jim Rittenhouse in it.

I'm with captcarb on this one, I'd go with an early 2.5 200 over a 260/280/300. with minor mods it'll scream and way outlive the 260. Even j.iversons idea of giving the 175 a new front half and a good workover would be a good option. If your goofing around pulling tubers and skiing I'd also choose either option over 260 simply for the convenience of keeping carbs for cheap/easy/low maintanence as appose to efi.
good luckl either way, heath.

My YT went freakish fast. I bought it new in '86 and the first motor I ran on it was a race legal 2.4 Bridgeport MOD-VP carb motor. This thing ran on Avgas, it had very tight heads from the factory and the boat ran 101 when the motor was fresh. I could pull a skier with my 30P cleaver! I went from 5" to 12" of setback and gained another 2 to 3 mph. In '93 I upgraded to a 2.5EFI 260 and right out of the box it ran 110 mph. Over the years I went through many powerheads with extensive modifications, but I never gained any speed over a stock 260. I even put a '99 Drag motor on it with no gain in speed. That hull hits a brick wall at 110, no matter what I'd do It wouldn't go any faster, but then again I don't think I'd want to go any faster in that hull, it did some strange things at that speed.
Back in the '80s and '90s I only used the speedo, but I confirmed those speeds with my GPS a couple of years ago before I sold the boat.
Your bowrider will be a completely different boat than my V-King YT. Your boat weights alot more and isn't as aerodynamic. A friend of mine had a bowrider YT with a pumped up OMC 200 on it and the mid 80's is all we could get out of it.
12 inches of setback really makes a huge difference on YT hulls. (IMO)

My Valero started life with a 150 supermag set up for skiing. I had Pierson warm it up to a 225, and it was an instant 10 mph using the same 4 blade ski prop.

Any idea if my 1985 175 HP Mariner (clean w/ Bobs NC-LWP) is able to be hopped up to a 225? If so any thought on how much something like that may run??? ( not counting shipping just the parts and work)
Is it worth it ???

Could this be done to my 175 Mariner 1985 motor? (Make it a 225) If so what would something like that cost?
