Trying to decide on the best prop pitch for my Scarab. Twin 235's turn about 5800 RPM at WOT. My repair book shows rated HP at 5250 RPM. If thats true, I need to prop up a bit. Anybody know if that RPM is correct? Thanks
Bill

Your engine torque curves are max between 5250 and 5750. A stock 235 motor beyond 5750 loses effective performance. Being only 50 rpm off, I would not worry about it. The engines will not be hurt running at 5800. Next time you damage your props, you could have a little pitch added to them if you like. A good speed prop shop can handle this for you.

The other thing to take into account is that stock prop's true pitch often varies from the advertised pitch (unless it's been worked over by a good prop shop or the factory), so you may not see much of a change depending on the relative pitch inaccuracies. Since you're pretty close; if the props seem to be performing well, I'd probably send them to a good prop shop before I'd buy replacements in a different pitch. That way they could make sure the props match as well. Just my $0.02.
