I don't know what it will do in a boat but will kick ass in a car. The tall deck can be bored out more and shaved to make some awsome compression and displacement. This could be built into a real sleeper. The smaller displacement will rev quicker. I guess 650-750 hp if done right. Bore it .30 have and you'll have a 402. The tall decks don't get the credit they deserve. If you want to go crazy stroke it.

A SMALL BLOCK WOULD KICK THAT PIGS ASS!!! A SMALL BLOCK IS 200 LBS LIGHTER, REVS FASTER, THE PARTS ARE CHEAPER AND IS MORE DURABLE IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUILD A BIG BLOCK THEN BUILD A REAL BIG BLOCK- A MINIMUM OF 427 NOT SOME CRAPPPY 402 THAT WAS A DOG ALSO

How many cars did GM make with a 396???? several. There is nothing wrong with it. It will be a torque motor also plus lighter than a 427. True a small blk is cheaper. What does it hurt to build something out of the ordinary

It will be a torque motor also plus lighter than a 427 Why do you say that? It's the SAME motor with larger bores/pistons. The crank is the same stroke!

it is a big block and all big blocks basically weigh the same the 366 may be even heavier due to the thicker cylinder walls but they still all way the same, and for less money than it would cost to build the big block(go price aluminum cylinder heads or cast iron dart cylinder heads-big block pricing vs. small block) and you will get an idea about what i am talking about) , and as for a blower, a small block kicks ass w/ a blower, i have a blown 383(stroked 350" block w/ aftermarket 400 crank) thats been in the car for 4 years, gets driven and taken on road trips, gets 16 mpg w/ 3.73 gears, and developes 575 hp and 610 ft/lbs of torque, runs 11's in a 4200 lb convertible, is totally reliable, and spins 6300 rpm, and is still a small block that is nice and lite, for probably a cheaper price then what you are going to spend on the big block(without a blower!!!), and will run circles around it!!

and ps if people build stuff for the sake of being different the boats would be running much slower then they are now!!! how about building a 150 mercury instead of a 200???? the answer the boat would be a dog w/ a 150!!!! unless you are running in a class that you must then fine, but if not, why bother it costs the same money to build and will totally outperform the 150, so think about that before putting money in something that you will not be happy with
