View Full Version : What ratio does a VRO unit mix at WOT?

I was just wondering what ratio the stock VRO unit mixes oil at during wide open throttle. What about at idle? The motor is a 89' GT200 looper.

Thanks

If I remember correctly it is about 50 to 1 at WOT and 150 to 1 at idle, or there abouts.

If I remove the VRO unit, will a 50:1 mix in the tank be OK, or should I go with 40:1? The motor won't see much more than 6400rpms, and that's just for short periods of time.

50:1 ain't enough if you want the motor to live a long happy life, go 40:1

A couple of months ago I changed heads on a friends 2000 HO that had 28 hours after a rebuild (ran hot and fried it). While doing a compression check after installing the higher compression heads we found one cylinder was about 40 pounds low, figure that ones rings didn't seat after rebuild so we pulled that piston and installed another set of rings. While honing the block for the new rings there was already more wear in the bridges between the ports than could be honed out without making the hole too large.

This motor was run a lot at 6,500 rpm and still running factory fuel/oil pump without premixing any additional oil in tank. I figure at that rate of wear, he might get 100 hours out of it.

throw the VRO in the river. Use a electric fuel pump and mix at 40 to one. You will fry your motor with this VRO. If yours is original, remember its 15 years old.

6400RPM is fine at 40 to one. I'm running a stock V8 at 6750 nonstop. still lives, but I threw two VRO's away on this motor. BTW make sure you use 3/8 fuel line from the tank to the carb manifold. No more than 7PSI fuel pressure.

I asked racer the same question on oil ratios...

"50:1 is enough oil under 7k" was his response

I am running Pennzoil 100% Syn.

I am now running 50:1 on my 88 200 XP. No problems.
