I have a 3.0 litre bridgeport [Evolution Marine stage 3] .It has big bore carbs, 195 lbs. compression, fingerports,& modified reed cages. The powerhead sits on a Mad efi modified adapter & shortie mid section with a CLE gearcase& a Tillman lightning cut chopper. It has unlimited ignition boxes & a high output stator with 350 volts primary output, both by Rapair.
The block is ported to run 8400 rpm, however 7200 [by a gafrig tach] is all there is!
It is on a Rapidcraft Riot. The unit with all the mandated equipment, sandbar poles, 1/2 tank o gas & a full cooler o Bud
weighs 1220 lbs. I am nearly positive that the problem is in the ignition system. This thing leaves hard, pulls hard through the midrange, then hits the wall at 7200. Any thoughts guys? MSD is not an option $$$$. THANKS !!

loose the v-6 ignition system--go to either v-4 looper flywheel& stator or go with yamaha ignition--thats the missing piece to your puzzle.....................greg

Greg: Thanks for your reply! Not that i dont believe you, but i dont understand what good a V /4 flywheel &stator would do other than the V/4 flywheel can be made lighter than a V/6
.Im also in the dark about the yamaha conversion [availibility& cost.]

350 volts is extremely high, at what rpm do you have this amount and on what meter? If you are running a stock 35 amp flywheel you are asking for trouble at those kinds of rpm. Did the engine ever actually turn 8400?

racer:I was told by Marv @ Evolution Marine that the problem was the stock stator & that Rapair could build me one with the prescribed 350 volt primary output [per Marv]. I called them& they knew what i was talking about. The one they sent me gained me 800 rpm. I didnt check it because it helped so much.[6200 to 7000rpm.
NO,it never turned 8400, thats just the porting specs. The shortie mid helped holeshot A BUNCH!!!,& top end 200[7200]
Shure would like to have those 1200 Rs!!! THANKS! RudeRiot PS: I know youre right about the flywheel. Its livin at 7200 & if i figure out the problem Ill get a light one.

I have never seen a repair stator at 350 volts they do have better saturation time. Have you checked the jetting/piston colors? What size prop are you running? Have you checked the tack?

Racer: Sorry for the delay... Piston dome color is a nice medium toasty brown; the last rebuild lived over 400 hours [hr. meter],& they wernt easy hours!
The prop is a Tillman lightning cut chopper.
Ichecked the tach against a O.M.C. digital test tach& it was fine. I verry much appreciate your interest &help!! Thank you!!:D
