I have a Sony DCS-70 and I was wondering what "Macro pictures" are? Is it a lens put on the camera or is it an option some digitals have built in?

I read where Greg said he mainly took "Macro pictures" and they sure look good.

Just looking for some insite!
Thanks,
Mac.

Macro photos are closeup images. Usually, the camera/lens is very close to the subject being photographed. The goal is to obtain maximum detail.

Greg,
Don't most digitals get fuzzy close up? Is there a technique to it?
I can't believe your pic of the insect (Spider; corrected by Markus) on the screen was from a factory setting camera, if so that's remarkable!

Mac,

A digital camera takes a photo much the same way as a film camera. They just capture the image to different mediums.

Most cameras have a Macro setting, which will allow the lens to focus as close as less than an inch on some models. Of course, the ability of the lens and camera depend on which camera you have.

A tripod is also very useful, or an extremely steady hand.

Here's an image I shot today. Note the focal area is concentrated on the center of the imaqe.

Another image demonstrating macro focus. A very steady hand is required for capturing images like this - a tripod is better.

This image was not edited at all - it was just reduced in size.

On most cameras, the macro function is represented by the little "flower pot" icon.

1/18 model car taken tonight on Macro. I cant get em as good as Greg, but you can see the size compared to my computer in the background. May I suggest to anyone with a knowledge of their camera, use its manual mode, you can take alot better pictures.
