Lets all take a moment of quiet contemplation in recognition of the FIRST 140mph pass by a lake-boat!!! (Ok- Ok... so it was a couple of tenths shy... ;) ) RP is a pretty humble guy - but does say there is still more testing needed... I'll go out on a limb here and predict that in a few more weeks mid 140 passes will be getting layed down with consistency!! So there it is S/F speedkings - Yankees 1, Dixie ZZZZZERO!! :p :D

Well I see the word is out. So much for secrets.

Just for those who need to know the boat is a River Rocket SBS. (side by side seating) The motor is a stock drag engine with stock air horn. (2000 model) The gearcase is a 1:87 200 case with a "tooters" noze cone. The prop is a modified 30 chopper with a peek pitch of 31". Very little cup to the blade and the leading edge has material removed. All to tame down the lift. (same prop we ran on your boat CP) No nitrious or anything like that. Just basic setup and homework. Surprisingly the setup way different than anything I've seen on S&F or the STV site. Motor height was only 7/8" above the pad. Tried 1 1/8 but was to goofy in the handling department. 4" of set back with the 15" motor.

Only motor mods are a Tom Johnson exhaust adapter and intake plate. Also a Brucato PCU with an amazing adjustment to the box. Way more radical settings than I thought I would need. But it has been exellent and I'll never run (buy) a Merc ECU again. Not with Tony's stuff and Taylor Marine's ECU out there.

The boat runs and handles better than expected. I thought it would be much harder to get there than it was. Just had to learn the boat a little and wait for the weather. (turns good too but not "champ boat" style) This is my "family truckster" so I will be giving rides at "balz to the walls". It's pretty fun to give riders 125mph blasts in a REAL short distance. Those who were there know what a breathless, shaking person looks like on one such adventure. ( CP, Jason, Iverson, J, Hanley)

For now I'll just look to have some fun and see where the next goal is.

With one eye shut I can see that is NOT 140 mph But 138 maybe 139.It def, is impressive but not 140.And before you get to much into the Yankee's 1 and the south 0 I heard that Dennis Vatola is at over 137 himself but hasnt had the photo to go with it.By the way The guy's with the copies at Lightning (STV)aint even trying for the big speeds.I for one dont want any part of those speed's.I like 110 -115 myself. This post is verey impressive and I will say great job and yes your on top.I only wonder though how long it will be before someone dies chasing the crown for the fastest lake boat. Please be carefull in your attempt to go over 140.You will be in my prayers and good luck.:)

Rob and Jason - very good point about safety, and I cannot stress it enough when I say that safety equipment and responsible boating are what is most important. Randy is a seasoned driver, and Helmut is as well. I literally trust him with my life when I'm in the STV. You have to have that trust in someone.

I may make jokes, but there is nothing funny about operating a boat at those speeds. We take it very seriously, as I'm sure most of you do.

What is scary now is that you can go buy a new STV and a Drag and go 125 ++++++ out of the box. Even 5 years ago that was unheard of, today with the power and props it is almost every day. 140 is truly scary fast, last time I saw Dennis he even said that it was getting nuts, and this is coming from a guy that used to race Indy cars. I am now happy with 110-120, specially after seeing a few crash ( a friends Euro that went over makes that long island viper look good ), thankfully nobody has been killed yet, but fact of the matter is if you do thins long enough you are going to get wet.
I am not gonna preach to the choir, as these guys certainly know, but damn that is a BIG number!, congratulations.. and be safe.

Guys,

Just a quick note before some of this is taken out of context. The 140 thing is something between myself and me. No contest or bets. I do this stuff for my enjoyment and a one time I was like everybody here at S&F. I started with a 65mph v-bottom and have progressed over the the years (almost 30 years now) to faster or more fun (for me) boats. Everybody, take pride in what you own and whatever the speed is. I do this everday and have more seat time than I care to think about. Just take your boat one step at a time and strive to improve. That is the satisfaction I get from this sport. Going 140 the half dozen times I've done it so far is just me finding new challanges. I accually prefer it set up a little more sane for my lake endevors.

Be careful and have fun tweeking your rigs no matter what the speedo numbers are. They are ALL hot boats. We are all "hot boaters", just have different stuff to play with. Keeps it interesting that way.

The pictures don't even do this beauty justice. It's standard GPI rigging from tip to tail. Every piece of metal attached to the hull is powdercoated to perfection. I don't know if it looked cooler doing a buck fourty or sitting on that sweet trailer. I just feel honored to have sat in the drivers seat (on the trailer). Had beers with the legend RP tonight, you'd think a guy would be a gorilla beating his chest after that accomplishement, but no, nothing but a humble class act. Not bad for the first tank of gas on a boat that has reverse and the capacity to seat 4!

What you said, Steve. Somewhat related, a few days ago I was standing on the Spunk lake prison dock and RP was warming up a bit in front of a small group of new friends and I found myself backing up somewhat as he approached. Skipping along only on the back 2 inches of the pad and the bottom of the gearcase at a buck and quarter or so.

An hour later, I was a sitting duck stopped in the middle of the lake as he did a fly-by about 15 feet off my starboard rubrail. The new friends were impressed, but they're new at this. Me, on the other hand, maybe needed to go potty. What a RUSH!
