I have come across a Mercury Clymer Service Manual for 45-225 HP motors from 1972-1989. I have a mid eighties Merc 200 2.4 litre. Will this manual be worth buying? For the record, I am a novice regarding boat motors. I am looking for a (low priced) manual to help me work on my motor a little easier. Smack

I'm not positive how their boat manuals are, but the motorcyle manuals by Clymer are THE best. Lots of photos and great descriptions.

OE manuals are the best. We sell both. The Clymers are around $35~40, and OE is $40~50. Let us know if we can help.

Can you still get a Merc manual that covers the 1500 XS? My son just bought one (XS), and he found a Seloc manual on ebay. Never heard of it so I thought we might need a Merc manual.

Hey Wayne,
The Seloc's are in the same league as the Clymer's, OK but not great. The print is a lot smaller than the Clymer manual, which may not be a problem for your son (It is for me though). The info is kinda general in nature, but better than nothing.

I may be able to pick it up for $10, and it's in new condition. Sounds like it may be worth that then, and I'll keep my eyes out for a Mercury manual. Smack
