Getting ready to purchase a new digital camera, the one I used on here has 2.0 megapixel. What is everybody else using? Greg takes really nice pic's, as does Randy(Wildman). Any help would be appreciated, Thanks Chuck.:)

Are you wanting it to print pictures with or just post photos on the web?

I would like to be able to do both. I am big on hanging 8x10 pic's. Also being able to get very nice action shots. Chuck.

A 3.2 will print perfect 8X10's. The Canon A70 or revised "A75" is a good choice for general high-quality point-and-shoot. The S400 and S410 are great compact 4.0 models! S500 = 5.0 MP.
Easy to use, they take really crisp outdoor photos, automatic everything, fool-proof in the AUTO mode.

The SONY 828 is the BOMB for pro quality, 8.0 MP, huge Zeiss glass... drool, drool

I just bought a Sony 828 and it does take nice pictures. Way faster and nicer than the 717 I have. Problem I see is not enough memory. I tried 2 different compact flash cards in it and neither will take the video in VX Fine. WOrks with the memstick pro, but those cost a fortune for the bigger sticks. Kinda confused here but, believe I need a microdrive.....now where do I get one of them from?????????

I have aan OLYMPUS C-3000 Zoom and I love it. It is very user friendly. Check out Consumer Reports. The OLYMPUS C-740 is one of the CR best buys and a great camera also. A friend on mine at work has the C-740 he got it at Wally World(Wal Mart).

BUY LOCAL!!! Such as Circuit City,Best Buy,Wal Mart,Target or so forth that way if there is problems you go local to deal with. I also reccomend the extended warranty if available.

Below is the C-740.

Never owned any other brand so cant say what they are like.

Just my 2¢

Personally, I only like Nikon cameras.

For point-and-shoot types, my workhorse is a Nikon Coolpix 995, and my other point-and-shoot is a Nikon Coolpix 5700. I have taken over 6000 images with my 995 in many different conditions, and it never skips a beat. The 5700 takes the best point-and-shoot camera images I have ever seen.

Here is a highly compressed image from the 5700: (Frostman's engine).

Olympus C-740 is fabulous. 10X optical zoom will really reach out and touch someone. All sorts of manual stuff available but works great on full auto. Good battery life, good recycle times, great pictures.

I use an Olympus C-740? (the one with 8x zoom). It takes phenomanal pictures but the recovery time between pics sucks butt. I dont know if all digital cameras are that way but that is the only area of this camera I feel could be improved. And the price was really good for the quality of camera as well....

All digitals are slow between pictures. The more you pay the faster they are. Also work best on the VERY expensive lithium batteries. I mostly use rechargeable AA's but for vacation I use the lithiums. They are good for about 1000 pictures.

before you go and drop a Big Bill on a digital camera, just keep in mind alot of them are being bought mostly because of hype and not performance. I would first set a budget then shop locally at best buy or circuit city or whatever big electronic store you have around there. make sure you know their return policy. that way if you are dissatisfied, you can always exchange, or return and try a new one. personally i'm a sony guy, but no way would i spend a big bill on that new sony cam.

I hate to disagree, but I've seen the Olympus C740 Ultra Zoom in action many times, and I was not impressed at all with the quality of its photos. The colors were washed out, had a lot of artifacts, and the lens is just not very good. Although it has a 10X zoom, the bottom line is image quality, isn't it?

Just my observation...

Greg, I don't know who was operating that camera, but I know several people besides myself that have Olympus C-740s and I have never seen a bad picture. Vibrant color, sharp as a tack images and Olympus has the best optics going at the non-scientific, NASA funded level.

http://www.pbase.com/gaineso42/anglers_paradise&page=1

is a link to pictures I took at a BBC rally at Angler's Paradise. Outdoors in bright sun, indoors at night and outdoors at night. And those pictures ar reduced in size for posting.

This is one that is not reduced. Shot at next highest resolution:

It won't let me post it without reducing it. Try again:

Do you see any
Washed out color, even though the picture is reduced to 1/4 size?

And I don't think this is washed out either. Shot from a Bullet doing 65 as we got passed by a Toon.

Gaines,

I will admit that most camera "problems" can be attributed to user error. I have not *personally* used the Olympus Ultra Zoom. I generally do not take landscape images. I'm usually taking more macro shots.

Here's one image I took at Tanner Park in Long Island, New York. This is a raw, unedited image. Of course, it's reduced in size and compressed, which will affect quality. This was taken with my Nikon E995, which is over 3 years old now.

Nice pics, by the way :)

Yes - it would have come out a lot better if I used a tripod too.

This post got me thinking... A while back I thought about adding a digital camera support forum here, since it seems that digital cameras and hot boats go hand in hand. Everyone has a camera now, and we all like taking photos of boats.

What do you think?

I love a digit camera compared to the old scanner ways. If I have a quick question about something I run outside and snap and pic and upload it on the comp and have it all done and posted in 5 minutes. I just use my mom's 5 megapixel sony. I like it, real easy to use and quite a few features really. This pic is very compressed.

I love it, 5.3 megapixels, 21X total zoom, and has up to 2 minutes of video....

I also bought the camera dock, to charge batteries, and show the pics, before we return home.....

This pic was taken from the third seat of my GTX, and was in the basement, with fair lighting...

Bought an HP Photosmart 720 a couple of years ago to be able to take pictures of blown engine parts and post on S&F. (Seriously)

I chose the HP because it was the cheapest camera with zoom that I was able to find.

It made me realize that I just love digital photography. Then I found an old Canon EOS and some really good lenses in my fiancées closet. So as soon as I feel rich enough, I will get a Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel), because it is compatible with the Canon EF optics.

Greg, that animal on your window screen is not an insect. It is a spider.

Insects have six legs (One for each rod on a Mercury V6)
Spiders have eight legs (One for each rod on an OMC V8)

Travis,

There is a reason all these Brooklyn-based websites have the cameras listed at those prices. Call them and find out. Usually they are out of the box, without batteries, "gray market", or refurbished.

Here is BBB report on Express Cameras (run under several names, including Express Cameras) (http://www.bbbnewyork.org/businessreports/Default.aspx?id=16019)

Do NOT buy from Express Cameras or any other website offering an "incredible" price on the camera.
