I have a 1988 Mercury 2.4 EFI BP that I purchased last year and am getting ready to install on the boat. My question is this. On the poppet valve cover there is an adjustment valve with a lock ring. I have never seen one like this and was wondering if anyone might know what it is for. It appears to be about a one quarter inch threaded shaft with very fine threads that will screw in and out. Would this be a preloading device to adjust the pressure?

Best Wishes

Carter, A 2.4 BP shouldn't have a poppit valve. They came with a flat cover plate and a 90 degree fitting to exit the water. This might be something homemade to control water pressure. George
