Thinking of using one on my 2.6 OMC crossflow with an adapter from Maddefi. Motor should produce 250hp at prop. Can the XR handle that and for how long?

If you mean the small diameter- unless you are going for all out drag racing, it is a very poor case for a high HP application. even with upgraded internals, the case will split. its not designed for the high horsepower OR surfacing.
IMHO there are 3 options, sportmaster, sporsmaster, and sportmaster...

There are a lot of people runnin' em in high perf applications with good results, especially with Steckbauer's upgrades. I don't think you'll have real good luck with a stone stock one unless you're awfully easy on it.
I do agree with 1bad though that the Sportmaster is a better choice unless you're willing to sacrifice some life expectancy for a very small difference in top end speed.

I would be using it for mostly just playing around and the occassional lake race. I am considering it because I can get one cheap with the 1.78 gears and a bobs cone already on it. Whattaya think? Will it work for this application?
