View Full Version : help for 250 EFI shutting off

anyone have an idea what could be happening? my 1996 Mercury 250 EFI shuts down sometimes when I go to WOT....I will be running fine, then when I open the throttle to WOT, the engine shuts off suddenly....what could this be? thanks for your help

thanks sherlock,

looked at the control box wiring and everything seems OK.....I wonder if it could be the stator? any thoughts?

You need to find out if it is fuel or ignition problem.Install a fuel psi guage on the test port right above the vst tank on the motor and get it to act up.If it loses fuel psi make sure you are not losing the voltage to the ecm and it turning off the fuel pump.A bad key switch will do this or a bad connection at the cannon plug where the harness hooks together.We sometimes take a jumper wire from the pos side of the solenoid and go to the purple on the terminal board that feeds the ecm to isloate this being a possible problem. If that motor calls for QL77CC plugs only run them ,others will do wierd things. hf...
