Holly Crap..
Now I am really excited...
I just got confirmation that my buddy's wife is going out of town that weekend so I have a ride (car) to get down there. This will be the first time either of us have been down in that area.
Page----Unfortunately Progressive Power had a big spike here a few weeks ago and took out my hard drive. I lost about 2800 photos (but had back up DVD-whew) and my mail box and address book as well as several other programs so I no longer have your number:mad:
I currently have reservations at the Ramada, but was wondering if there are places (nice-not crazy high) close to the course and with a water (not pool):D view..
Any other suggestions??
See ya all there
here is a sample--Offshore P class and Bat Boat
not any cheap hotels down here

where are they planning on running the roundy round boats? I live just south of marathon and i can tell you i hope not in the same place (7 mile) as the offshore guys - seas can get downright nasty in that spot! See you guys there
down by the bridge hopefully they set the small boats to race at slack tide

Marc glad you can make it, I heard the dry and wet pits will be free this year, Its probably when of the best venues I've been to for racing, and besides you can't beat the blue water.

:) :) :) Marathon Offshore Gran Prix Becomes Festival of Speed
Marathon, FL - - As the 2004 APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade Series gets underway with the Season Opener in Marathon, fans can expect more than just the awesome power of the Offshore Powerboats to hit the water, the event is turning into a Festival of Speed, as additional categories of power line up to compete.
In cooperation with the 100+ year-old American Power Boat Association (A.P.B.A.), Lee Mills, Producer of the APBA Offshore Marathon Offshore Gran Prix, has extended an invitation for a number of classes in the A.P.B.A. to compete alongside the massive power of the APBA Offshore Super Series™, Factory Series ™ and Outlaw Performance ™ series fleet.
"We are excited to be able to offer our fans a complete Festival of Speed, with boats from 12' up to 46' competing in the waters off the Sunset Key and the Seven Mile Bridge. It's an event that anyone who loves boating just can't miss," said Mills.
In addition to Stock, Modified, Pro, and Drag Boat categories of A.P.B.A. Racing, the OPC Division will bring the SST-45, SST- 60, SST - 120, Modified Unlimited and SLT classes to Marathon.
The SST-45 Class includes 12' Boat with Johnson or Evinrude engine 45 cubic inch, 2 cylinder outboards. Expected speeds are between 70-80 miles per hour. Competitors to date include Fred Curtis in the #10, Brian Burkhardt in the #28 and father and son Jose Mendana Senior pitted against Junior in the #18 and #21 entries.
The SST-60 Class boasts a 14' hull powered by a Johnson or Evinrude 56 cubic inch, 3 cylinder outboard engine shooting speeds of between 85 - 95 miles per hour. Entrants include The #4 Pirtek USA team with Howie Nichols, #13 campaigned by Lance Comegys, the #16 Everglades Seasonings driver by Carole Reno, and the # 37 Modern Discount Marine with Brian Brubaker at the helm. The # 73 operated by Steve Dinicolantonio and the # 89 with Bill Mastro round out the class.
Moving up the line in both length and speed is the SST-120 class. Those entries will hit the water in a 16' Boat with a Mercury or Mariner 120 cubic inch, 6 cylinder outboard. Speeds top out between 100 - 110 miles per hour. Jeff Reno's #19 Pogey's Restaurant, the #15 with George Allen and the #96 entry operated by Fred Durr are expected to attend.
The Modified Unlimited class gives competitors in an 18' hull a choice of outboards allowing for the 6 or 8-cylinder engine, and can reach between 115 and 130 miles per hour. Reno's #19 Pogey's Restaurant will compete in his second class, along with the #15 George All. The # 43, with Predrag Mihajlovic and the # 44 with Nenad Mihajlovic, will join the # 92 Wizard Marine with Bruce Washburn at the helm, adds the #96 with Fred Durr, also competing for the second time in the competition.
The SLT class includes Inflatable boats with 40-60 HP outboards expected to reach speeds of between 55 and 65 miles per hour, and a minimum of five entries are expected.
The Marathon Offshore Gran Prix, slated for May 14th - 16th, 2004 includes a number of exciting events, one of which is a complete display of the raceboats in the Marathon Airport Race Village Dry Pits.
On Friday at 7:30pm, there will be a history making boat parade down the Overseas Highway, followed by a Live Concert at Knights Key featuring Keys favorite Latin artist Jen, followed by the main attraction, Rick Derringer. Fans may remember some of his more famous songs as "Hang On Sloopy," and "Rock and Rock Hoochie Koo."
Spectacular racing action begins at 10:00am on both Saturday and Sunday of race weekend, with the A.P.B.A. categories at 10:00am and 3:00pm, and Offshore Categories at Noon and 2:00pm.
The Race Village Dry Pits and Race Viewing are Free to the General Public. There is also a V.I.P. Section for a fee, and a number of race parties are held all weekend long for a $3 donation to the Marathon Rotary Club.
