I just came over two damaged V8 engines. The guy who sold them said that one of them is a counter rotation. I am a bit confused as the flywheel look's the same on both.
Can anyone tell me year and rotation by the code stamped in the back of the blocks. E275PLCC it's a complete 4 litre outboard, J275TLCU just a powerhead.
Thanks

The CC is a 1988 and the CU is a 1987... Counter rotation would be in the gearcase, the prop would turn to the left ( counter rotate) when looked at from the rear... The power head runs in the same direction....

88 and 87 thanks HST,
Still confused on the rotation
I only have the powerhead from the TL so it is diffcult to judge by the propshaft. The startmotor is also missing so I can not check by running it......

powerheads are identical on both engines it wount matter which one is counter rotation as they bother spin to the right the only difference is in the gearcase on a counter rotation motor

There were some of the early models that did run backwards for a counter, Go Figure...

The 1987 and 88 turn the power head backwards to counter rotate. On the power head look for a cable that advances the timer base or there is an arrow on the flywheel that indicates motor rotation
