I've got the back half of the crankcase off of my inline 6. How exactly do I get the crankshaft/pistons out?

Ok...I got the crankshaft loose, but the pistons still won't come out. Any idea why?

I wanted to see them next to each other. When you forgot the oil, did your motor seize? if so, they could still be stuck??

Yep...they do look good together. :) It seized up twice actually...but it freed up after that, still turns over nice and easy.

WITH THE END CAPS OFF, USE A BIG SCREWDRIVER AND PRY UP ON THE CRANK, MY WANT TO PUT A FLOADED RAG UNDER THE SCREWDRIVER TO PROTECT THE CRANK. IT'LL COME...

Hi,

I would invest in a manual. The description of using a screwdriver with rags to protect the block and crank is clearly stated. The fact that it is tight in the block is good; the crank hasn't been rattling around in there.

So, how does the block look? Hone, rering and a couple of pistons? Might as well do endcap seals while you are there. If you want to get ambitious, crank pin and piston pin needles along with new rod bolts/nuts. Rickracer can set you up with everything you need.

First problem is to find a machine shop that deals in the closed head blocks and two strokes...

Did the reed blocks have extra locking screws to keep from spinning I'm talking about the one's with the little metal locking tab ???

No, I think this one's done for. :( All the cylinders have some deep gouges, one is missing some chunks. :D There is still some factory honing marks in a couple cylinders though. Not bad for a 30 year old engine that went about 30,000 revolutions without oil! I'm still considering getting it completely rebuilt, I would much rather have this one in like new condition over a brand new 115hp...

No, they had little pins in them to keep from spinning.
