This weekend I went with the change to the Pennzoil 100% synthetic. In the past I was using Quicksilver stuff seem to work good no problems. The motor likes to load up when in gear and idleing. I thought maybe the change in oil would make a diffrence.
Well it did, it made it worse. I have to keep the RPM's up around 1100 so it does load up and die. I have an 87 XP200, holley red fuel pump. Any help our suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks

I doubt its the oil, but unfortunately I don't know much about omc's. Do your carbs have idle mixture screws? Usually loading up means the idle mixture is too rich. That can happen for several reasons. Maybe someone else with omc experience can jump in here.

The change of oil ain't the problem !I would bump the idle up some either with the pickup timing or the idle stop , also do you have a pressure gauge for your fuel pump ? If so check and make sure its enough or not too much and your not over powering the needle and seat abilitys to do a correct valving process ! It sould be no more than 5 lbs at the point closest to the carb any more than that and you will overpower the needle and set and flood I would believe 4 PSI would be the ticket! Also now is a good time for a plug change , the syn Pennzoil may have loosened up some of the Quicksilver gunk and fouled your plugs !
Good luck !

Like jay said make sure your psi is right. The Holley red pump has a pressure relief valve in it and sometimes the valve sticks if it has been setting for a while. if so easy to clean.Just unscrew a cap on the pump and remove spring and plunger clean and re install

Thankyou guys that makes alot more sense than the oil.
Jay I know what the idle stop is but what is the pickup timing?
I have the book I can figure it out but if you give me some tips
that would be awesome. I will also install that pressure gauge I
dont have one now but sounds like a good idea, as well as changing the plugs.

Idle timing (pick up) is set with the screw on the linkage just above the cam roller (not the one that is in the top bearing cap that is wot timing), it is the one that moves with the linkage. Generally they like 4 degrees ATDC at idle.
