Hello,

This is my first time at tackling an OB engine and am pretty much a rookie when it comes to this... I have been working on a 2.4 by replacing the powerhead and have come across two items that I could use some advise on.

1. I dropped on the replacement powerhead and started connecting everything up and the repacement block does not have a water pressure pick up port on the cylinder head like the blown engine. Not sure where I should try to get this indication. Is there another good location to get the same reading from?

2. I must have missed something when I dropped on the replacement powerhead as the lower unit is not shifting into gear. I must have moved the the shift shaft during the installation... Do I have to lift the powerhead back off to get the shift shaft in the right position? What is the best way to correct this?

Would really appreciate an help.

Thanks,

I plumb my W/P gauge into the top of the block where the relief line comes off. The shift shaft probably got pulled off the lower unit durring your swap. You can pull the L/U to get the shaft splined up correctly.

I hope this helps, Brian:)

Yes, what Shadowman said. Also, you may (or may not) have a water pressure fitting at the top left of the exhaust divider between the heads.

AND.. as long as the LU is coming off change the water pump impellor. They're like $25 bucks and a snap to do.

You will have to do one of two things , either lift the powerhead OR drop the gear case about an inch and line up the shiftshaft to the spline. Make sure the ****er is in neutral and the gear case is also in neutral by turning the prop shaft then sab her back on this should have it in synk..........

Water pressure can be tied in at the top of the block behind the flywheel at the 1/2" pipe plug with any type of compression or barbed fitting that coresponds with your line or hose......

Good luck

Jay,

You bet! Next time I'm in Dayton I'll have to stop by your shop.

This is a great website / tech forum. Thanks to all for addressing my questions.
