Anyone ever run a 20" motor on an Allison Super Sport? Just curious because I've only really seen 15" mids on them. Thanks

Hi Tom When I bought my SS from Baker we discussed in lenth 20` motors versus 15` motors. Because I had a 20` motor on the shelf I didn`t want to spend the extra money to switch to a 15`. Allison origanally designed all of his boats around small horse motors that were long shaft. If you go into the archives Sam has dicussed this many times. I don`t know how you look it up but it is there. The bottom line is he really couldn`t find much difference. Hope this helps you. Later Dave

Yes, when I first bought my SS2000 back in 98 , I ran a 20" 225 Pro Max, rigged by Baker. I ran it for 1 summer (about 250hrs) & it was a good setup. So, yes no problem running a 20'/SS2000 combo ! Scott

Hey thanks guys for the info. I kinda remember something about Sam posting a thread discussing a 20 and 15. Looks like I won't have any problem with a 20" offshore. Now I just got to find a 10" jackplate. Thanks again.:)

Skydog,
The previous owner told me to run a 10" because he had some reliable sources from AllisonOwners.com tellh im to use an 8" or 10", and he had a 10, so I figured I'd jsut go with what he used.

Dave, Scott,
do either of you have any pics of your old SS-2000 with 20" motas on them? Just curious.

PS. Dave, you got that Rocket ready yet?

It will fly flater and easier with 8" of set back!. You can all ways add 2" later if you want to try! I know it is not close to a Allison G.S. but when i bought my boat it had 10" went to 12" Bad move i could not drive the boat over 90 very easy at all boat was way to lose. Now i have 8" and i know it will be right on!! I dont think a SS 2000 needs more than my Grand Sport for lift. Set back is way over rated on Allisons! I know Sam Baker had a very very fast SS he was running 8". I think people get them mixed up with Hydrostreams?

AKA wimpy beer drinker ? SS2000 , when I took my boat to Randy I traded my 20" Pro Max for a 2.5 SS & he set it up for me (VERY happy I might add), he took off the spacer & went with only the 6.5 CMC BUT that was with the SS . It ran/handled great with the prior 9.5 setback. Tell Randy I said hey. Scott

There 20 SS2000's on the Allisonowners.com web site. 10" of setback is the most popular choice. Before I bought mine there were eight with 10" setback, three with 8". Mine has been switched from 10 to 8 but hasn't been wet yet with the new set up.

Minimum = 5.5, max = 15.

Not very many SS motors either, only 5.

I don't see much correlation between HP and speed in these boats. Maybe the HP shows up in acceleration:)
