Thinking of adding solid motor mounts. Can anyone estimate the cost of this? How difficult is this if I do it myself? The motor is a 1986 135hp merc.
Thanks.

you can get the set of mounts from bobs for about $65-the lowers are easy to change but you have to pull the power head off to install the uppers.

Bob's mounts seem to be the cheapest. You can buy from Land & Sea and a number of other places too if you want to pay twice the price.
It is easy to do except that the engine parts are heavy.

My biggest hassles changing the mounts were finding the correct gaskets for my old motor and rounding up enough muscle to yank the powerhead. Next time I’m going to get an engine hoist. The closest I’ve been to getting hurt around my boat was lifting that powerhead on!

Thanks for the info. Removing the powerhead looks fairly easy, but it does look heavy. Is this as easy as it looks or am I missing something.
I have a 79 Vector with Mariner 135, the top mounats are a bit hard to put in but it was worth it on my boat. It helped with chine walk. Top speed so far is 73.2 on gps. Waiting to get haeads back from machine shop. Getting hair cut on them .070, hope to get mo HP and MPH.

It is easy. You need to loosen the powerhead bolts and you will need a new powerhead gasket when you are done. If you hold the powerhead with a shop crane, you can work under the powerhead without having to disconnect the electrical system.
Disclaimer: Make sure that the powerhead does not fall on your hands, though.

How much vibration do solid mounts add. Been thinking of putting them on a '88 Johnson 175GT to help with a nasty 78mph chine walk on my 87 Valero. Will they help or hurt?

Here is link with some drawings for making your own mounts:

They have worked for many! Even Glenn I think had his own made for these drawings!

I currently have some stress cracking in the gelcoat around the transom. Will the vibration from the solid mounts creat more cracks?

very common on checkmate hulls.i don't think the extra vibration will cause them to get any worse.they are not structual-just cosmetic.

I have L&S solid mounts on my 235 OMC. It does vibrate more at idle and off idle speeds. From 3 grand on up I cannot tell any difference. Made a big difference in the amount of play in the steering. I think it has improved the handling of mine.

I think the solid mounts are a good addition in any high perf application. Several people have mentioned that the bottoms are easier to change than the uppers. Don't take this as advice to put the bottoms in solid and leave the uppers until later. This can result in broken parts. Do em all or don't do any of em.

Thanks for the help on a question that most of you probably think of as common knowledge. This helps alot. Can't seem to get any information from the local dealers.
